Strong, Claude
NOTE: CLAUDE'S BURIAL SPACE WAS UNMARKED, AND IS IN THE TOP RIGHT HAD SIDE OF THIS PHOTO
Through a library search in Craig, it was discovered that Claude was buried in the old Fairview section of the town cemetery. Records show he was placed in section F (Fairview) lot 53. It was the South half of that lot. There is no head stone or marker of any kind. The local Funeral home helped Charles Strong find this section. The North half contains the remains of Emma and John Easley. Claude is east of a Morris Family plot, and next to the West Road.

Morlas Mausoleum, Metairie Cemetery, New Orleans This mausoleum was erected in the Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans at the death of John Dominic Morlas in 1923.
It also became the final resting place of his wife, Lucine Roquevert, and their children: John Louis & wife Antoinette (Trapani) Morlas, Clothilde & husband Leon Bordes, Estelle & husband August Trapani, Louis & wife Lenora (Christoffer) Morlas, Leopold "Paul" & wife Olie (Roberts) Morlas, Vivian & husband Eugene Schoenfeld; as well as the resting place of several of John Dominic's grandsons; John Louis (I) Morlas Jr., Bertrand C. Morlas, John Louis (II) Morlas Jr., Sylvan "Brother" Bordes and Eugene "Jim" Schoenfeld, Jr.
More so than any city this side of Paris, New Orleans is renowned for its historically significant and ornate necropolises. One of the parish's most unique "Cities of the Dead" is the eerily beautiful and diverse Metairie Cemetery. Built over the old Metairie Race Course, the cemetery was founded by Charles T. Howard. According to legend, when Howard was not allowed to join the country club that owned the track, he vowed it would become a cemetery. Many other famous Louisianans are interred here, in structures ranging from Gothic crypts to Romanesque mausoleums to Egyptian pyramids

Benkelman, Adam and Catherine Family Plot This marker was engraved on all four sides, with trees planted eight to ten feet out on either side of the marker. The engraving on the granite is very difficult to read, however, the four names engraved upon it are still legible, and are for Adam Benkelman, his wife, Catherine, and two of their daughters-in-law who died shortly after marriage, Lydia Striffler, the wife of Samuel Benkelman and Rosina Wahl, the wife of John Adam Benkelman. This marker was likely erected in 1886, when Rosina died. |

Ceski Bratri Cemetery Gates Frank Koca left $100 to the trustees of the Ceski Bratri Cemetery to care for his grave. The rest was left equally to his siblings. His brother Vaclav Koca used his share of inheritance from Frank to erect a metal gate with ironworks at the entrance of Ceski Bratri cemetery that read "In Memory of Frank Koca." The gate was installed on Memorial Day in 1930. |

Soukup, Adolph Likely the son of Frank Soukup and Rose Stech of Saline County. Rose was shown on the 1910 census as the mother of 9 children, 8 of them still living. The 1900 census also indicated that one of her children had died prior to 1900. It is also possible he was instead a son of Frank M. Soukup and Anna Beznoska, who lived in Fillmore County during this time frame. PLEASE HELP US POSITIVELY IDENTIFY HIS FAMILY. |

Gentry, Sallie Sallie was listed in "History of Johnson Co. TX" as one of the first students to attend the Oakland College, which was chartered Nov. 2, 1866. Unfortunately, Sallie became the first person buried in the new Oakland Cemetery next to the school. People who later canvassed the cemetery for the genealogical society were unable to read Sallie's death date but it was later posted as: GENTRY, Miss Sallie A. 29 Jul 1856 14 Sep 1876.
The year of death above is difficult to read, but it appears more likely to be either 1860, making Sallie only four at the time of her death, or 1880, making her 24. |

Fuller, Viola (Fullen) Viola died in 1907--the day following her 35th birthday--and preceding her husband by more than 40 years. She was buried at McMahan Chapel Cemetery. Her parents, children and husband were instead interred at the Rosevine Cemetery, established some five years after her untimely death. The newer cemetery was adjacent to the Rosevine Church of God, of which the Fuller family were members. |

Benkelman/Horne/Clark Family Marker This is what is engraved on the back of the headstone of William and Mary Jane (Clancey-Benkelman) CLARK. It marks not only the burial place of Leonhard Benkelman and his wife, Jane McCormick; but also of presumed son-in-law John E. Horne and grandson, Willie Horne. The lot itself was purchased by John E. Horne. Leonhard Benkelman's step-daughter, Mary Jane Clancey, married first a HORNE and later William Clark. |
