Notes:
This cemetery sits on the north side of FM 916, west of Grandview. It is an older cemetery with large old shade trees; many of the gravestones are broken or badly worn, and there no longer seems to be an easily discernable pattern of rows. Many of the graves are marked simply with a small stone, bearing initials, probably to mark a grave at which the headstone no longer exists. 1998, Sharon Peel.

Gentry, Sallie Sallie was listed in "History of Johnson Co. TX" as one of the first students to attend the Oakland College, which was chartered Nov. 2, 1866. Unfortunately, Sallie became the first person buried in the new Oakland Cemetery next to the school. People who later canvassed the cemetery for the genealogical society were unable to read Sallie's death date but it was later posted as: GENTRY, Miss Sallie A. 29 Jul 1856 14 Sep 1876.
The year of death above is difficult to read, but it appears more likely to be either 1860, making Sallie only four at the time of her death, or 1880, making her 24. |
