13 June 1824: Before assigned the $100 to my daughter Elizabeth Strickland; I countermand, say it may not be done, knowing that I have already given her more than her proportional share. She may have $10.

Lady Fermoy was born Ruth Sylvia Gill at her father's house, Dalhebity, Bieldside, Aberdeenshire, the daughter of Colonel William Smith Gill and his wife, Ruth. [1] She showed early promise as a pianist and studied under Alfred Cortot at the Paris Conservatoire in the 1920s. [2]
Her musical career was cut short when she met, and later married in 1931, the wealthy and much older Edmund Roche, 4th Baron Fermoy. Before he died in 1955, they had three children which included her middle child, Frances Ruth (the mother of Lady Diana Spencer). Lady Fermoy did play the piano in public occasionally after her marriage, most notably with Josef Krips at the Royal Albert Hall in 1950, and with Sir John Barbirolli and the Hall? Orchestra at King's Lynn in 1966.[3] She founded the King's Lynn Festival in 1951 and remained closely involved with the Festival for 25 years, persuading Queen Elizabeth to become its patron. [4]
In 1956, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, appointed the Dowager Lady Fermoy an Extra Woman of the Bedchamber. The Queen Mother, being a widow herself, showed a preference for appointing widows to her household, and four years later Ruth, Lady Fermoy was promoted to Woman of the Bedchamber, a post she held for the next 33 years. [5]
The Queen Mother and Lady Fermoy became confidantes and it was largely supposed that they engineered the match between Charles, Prince of Wales and Lady Fermoy's granddaughter, Lady Diana Spencer. However, when asked about it, Lady Fermoy remarked, "You can say that if you like ? but it simply wouldn't be true". [6] It was also said that she counselled her granddaughter against the marriage. [7]
Lady Fermoy was a firm believer in the sanctity of marriage. In 1969, she testified against her own daughter's fitness as a mother, thus allowing Edward Spencer, Viscount Althorp to retain custody of their children after the couple's divorce. [2]
Lady Fermoy died at her home, 36 Eaton Square, London, [8] aged 84. It was reported that she was not on speaking terms with Diana when she died. [2]

B.W. "Woodrow" Gilley, 81, of Kirbyville died Monday, Aug. 14, 1995, at a Jasper hospital. Gilley was a native of Newton County, and had lived in the Kirbyville area several years. He was a retired building contractor.
Survivors: wife, Donna GILLEY of Kirbyville; a daughter Nelda STRICKLAND of Jasper; a son Lawrence GILLEY of Jasper; stepdaughters, Madena COCHRAN of Vidor and Helen CLARK of Mauriceville; step-sons Mack ROSE of Buna, Lynn R. ROSE of Jasper, and Dan A. ROSE of Temple; sisters, Evie POLLOCK of Newton and Mauline SEGURA of New Iberia, Louisiana; and brothers D.H. GILLEY of Newton, Ennis GILLEY of Hemphill, and Denson GILLEY of Jasper.
Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville. Interment followed at Zion Hill Cemetery near Jasper.
In his book, James L. McLemore, III writes that Burwell's "wife's given name was Amy, and though it has not yet been established, her maiden name was almost certainly GILLIAM. She could have been a younger daughter of John GILLIAM Jr. (who had an Amy among his younger children), but it is more likely that her father was Charles GILLIAM, the son of Hinchea and Fortune (Flood) GILLIAM, who were all neighbors of the McLemores. Charles and Mary (CLANTON) GILLIAM are listed in the "Albemarle Parish Register" as being the parents of five children: Fortune (b. 1742), Lydia (b. 1744), Phoebe and John, twins, (b. 1751) and Jordan (b. 1757). These were their youngest five children; it is known that they had at least two other children: Charles Jr. (the oldest) and Edmund, to both of whom Charles Sr. gave land. His gift to Edmund in 1757 indicates a probable birth date for him of 1736 or before, with Charles Jr. certainly older than that. Amy (GILLIAM) McLemore, if indeed an older child of Charles GILLIAM Sr., would probably have been born sometime in the (early) 1730's.........There is no proof that he (Charles GILLIAM) had a daughter named Amy. However, Charles GILLIAM was security on the bond of Burwell's mother Faith when she qualified on the estate of her husband John MACKLEMORE in early 1767, and then himself died later that same year. In addition, Amy is a name used within both the GILLIAM and CLANTON families, Burwell and his wife Amy had a close association with both of these families, and they named two of their younger sons Charles and Gilliam, all of which tends to support this thesis (James L. McLemore, III, pp. 69, 70).
Fortune or Fortain. Assumed to be the daughter of John and Margery GILLIAM, she would have had to have been one of their youngest children (if not the youngest), as she was probably born with a few years of the time of her father's death in 1671.(James L. McLemore, III, p 39).
Robert McLemore Butler shows her date of death as 12 May 1754 in Surry County, Virginia, much later than the date shown by James McLemore and Mark Freeman.
Billy W. McLemore of Alabama shows her to be half-Cherokee Indian.

A digital image of her Texas Death Certificate, viewable online at FamilySearch.org, Texas Deaths, 1890-1976, shows that she was widowed, and age 86. She was shown as born in Mississippi, to a GILLIAM, and the name listed on the death certificate was Nancy J. Baty. The online certificates of her sons instead indicate her maiden name was Gilliland or Gilliand. The informant was S. A. Baty of Buffalo, Texas. Their relationship was not indicated.

The son of Barbara BARTOS and Joseph GIRMUS, Gottlieb was born in Prague, Bohemia in 1847, and immigrated to the United States in 1851 with his (father and) brother Joseph. His father remarried Katharine WAGWADUKE and had eleven additional children. The family lived in New York, and later moved to Newark, New Jersey. Gottlieb worked as a machine shop operator. The Girmus family later settled in Saginaw, Michigan. Here Gottlieb enlisted in the 16th Regiment, Company D, Michigan on March 24, 1864. He was described as being small in stature, five feet one inch tall, with a fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, occupation laborer. He served for approximately 11 months, but became ill in March and April 1865 and was mustered out of the service due to his health. He was discharged in May 1865.
Gottlieb moved to Nebraska in 1868, and filed a homestead claim at the Beatrice Land Office on April 26, 1869. His land was approximately 150 acres in Section 34 of Liberty Township in Fillmore County.
Gottlieb was apparently industrious and entrepreneurial in spirit. The local paper noted he built to town coal shed, served as assessor for Glengary Township, purchased a well auger as a joint venture with Vit Laun, and served as village clerk. When he was in his early sixties, he moved to Chugwater, Wyoming to set up a homestead in that state. (Milligan, 276).
James J. Girmus was born April 13, 1883 near Milligan, Nebr. He died at the General Hospital in Geneva on Friday morning, March 26, 1943, at the age of 59 years, 11 months, and 19 days.
October 29, 1907, he was married to Anna Matejka. To this union twelve children were born, Joe is in the Army overseas, Emil, Jim, Mrs. Ervin Odvody; Mrs Hubert Koehn, Ed, Frank, Bill, and the rest at home*. five grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Albert Simacek, also survive. His brothers, Frank and Emil, preceded him in death.
He has farmed all his life in Fillmore County, except five years in Wyoming where he took up a homestead.
* also includes John, Rudolph, Raymond, and Adolph.
