Mrs. Millie Arthur received a telegram Tuesday apprising her of the death of her husband, Lloyd Arthur, Sr., who passed away Monday at the Veteran's hospital at Knoxville, Iowa, whre he had been for the past two years. Prior to being transferred to the hospital at Knoxville he spent a year in the Veterans hospital in Lincoln. He was afflicited with paralysis and heart trouble. Death came as a release from hopeless invalidism. His mother, Mrs, Nettie Arthur, who has been spending the winter in Fullerton, and his sister, Mrs. Henry Black of Fullerton, came to North Bend Tuesday when they learned of his death. Another sister, Mrs. Gertrude Bragdon of Robinson, Kansas, arrived Wednesday evening.
Lloyd Keith Arthur, son of James and Nettie Arthur, was born on a farm near Webster on October 17, 1888. He grew to manhood there, moving to North Bend with his mother and brother Willis when they retired from the farm. He was employed here as a mechanic during the years he lived in North Bend.
He was married on March 19, 1919, to Miss Millie Beznoska of North Bend. North Bend has been their home since that time except for two years they spent in Oklahoma. They were the parents of three children, Cpl. Duane Arthur, who is serving with the armed forces overseas, in North Ireland; Sgt. Lloyd Arthur, Jr. who is stationed at Savannah, Ga., and Miss Doris who is in High School and lives with her mother.
Mr. Arthur was a veteran of the first World War. He was a member of a machine gun unit but did not go overseas. He was a member of the American Legion Post when there was an organization here.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. Cottrell will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the United Presbyterian church. Burial will be made in the Chuickshank cemetery near Webster.

Shirley Brasher shows that she married Absalom B. JETT on 15 Apr 1838 Jefferson County, Texas, and that they had ten children born in Adams Bayou in Jefferson County.
FamilySearch.org, Texas Deaths, 1890-1976 shows she was born on 27 Jun 1887 in Texas, the daughter of Benjamin Arthur and Emma Youngblood, and that she died 28 Sept 1967 in Hemphill.
Born when his mother was 44? Need to double check both their ages.
The History of Sabine Parish, Louisiana (author John Belisle, The Sabien Banner Press, 1912) states that "in 1860 the white population of Sabine Parish numbers about four thousant, and there were less than two thousand slaves. There were few really wealthy people in the parish, and many owned not more than one of two slaves. the owners of six or more in 1861 included S. L. and Allen Arthur.
Shirley Brasher shows that he married Eula E. Mothershed ca 1903 in Sabine Parish, and that they were the parents of Nettie, Allison, Myrtle, Leeman, Truman, Archie, Grace, Wilmer and Carl.

ASSUMED by Kathy Casagranda to be a child of Thomas and Elizabeth ARTHUR due to last name, proximity to the other Arthur families in Sabine Parish, year of birth, place of birth, and the names of his children. Not proven. On January 30, 1852, William W. Arthur was bonded as a constable, securities were P.T. Montgomery and Jesse Morris. CRB B p. 37. (Casagranda, 1850 Census, 79).
Shirley Brasher instead shows him as the son of Barnabus C. Arthur (b. 1797 in South Carolina) and Lucinda Bond (b. 1801 in Georgia).
Casagranda writes that at the time of the 1850 Sabine Parish census, William and Eliza were living in the home of 75 year old Elizabeth McGuffin of Ireland. Could this be Eliza's grandmother? Also in the home was 20 year old John McGuffin, born Canada, and 29 year old Hiram Turner of Mississippi, listed as a laborer. (Casagranda, 1850 Census, 79). However, the census microfilm shows they lived next to Elizabeth McGuffin, and not actually in her home.

Shown on the IGI as born 17 Jan 1858 and died 12 Feb 1938 in Oklahoma City. Shown to have married twice, to Josephine CONCORD and Lula Jane MILLER, and as the father of seven.
In 1910, a John A Ashley (age 61, born ca 1849, Mississippi) and wife Lulla (age 23, born ca 1887) can be found in Caney, Atoka, Oklahoma with seven children. It was shown they had been married 7 years, and that she was the mother of two children, both living.
It would therefore appear that Ollie-17, Willie-15, Rosa-13, Minnie-11 and Maggie-8, were born to John's first wife, Robert-7 and Fred-4 both born to Lula.
John's mother, a 91 year old widow, Catherine Ashley was listed in their home as well. She was born in Mississippi as well.
Other other facts fit this John A. Ashley as being a son of Catherine C. McLemore, but the ages are markedly different.
Info can be found at FindAGrave on this John A. Ashley, linked to Josephine Concord. But again, due to the significant age gap, this should be carefully verified.
John Albert Ashley, Choctaw, early day state farmer who fought in the Civil War as a Confederate, will be buried in the Harrah Cemetery Monday afternoon following 2 p.m. services in the Choctaw Baptist Church.
Ashley, who died Saturday night in University hospital after an illness of several months, joined the Confederate ranks in Mississippi early in 1864 and fought until the end of the war. He was not wounded.
Ashley moved into the southern part of Oklahoma shortly before the turn of the century, and later moved to Choctaw. He came to the state from Texas.

At the time of the 1900 Sabine County Census, a Bu?? Ashmore of this same age, husband of Senora and father of five, was living next to Elizabeth Ashmore Hyden. He was shown as born in Oct. 1858 in Texas, with his parents born in Alabama and Texas. Might Bu?? and James Spencer be the same person?
Some online trees seem to confirm this, showing that he married Sanora Lambert, and that they were the parents of Walter, Nettie, Anna, Charles and Tommy.
