His address in 1938, at the time he completed a form SS-5, was 175 W. 188 Street in New York City. He was employed by Postal Telegraph. The names of his parents are based on this record, and have been confirmed through census records.
On March 14, 1942, shortly before his twentieth birthday, he enlisted in the U. S. Army. He was a resident of Queens, New York. He had completed four years of high school, and was employed as a bellman. He was single, with no dependents, and was 5 Feet 8 Inches tall, and weighed 148 pounds.
Frank J. Bramhall writes that Cornelius, William and George Bramhall are said to have come over from England about 1680, landing at Casco, Maine. They and two others, Joseph and Mary, were the children of James Bramhall, R. N. and Lady Florence Temple. James was the only child of Cornelius Bramhall, a native of Canterbury.
The same author writes that George died of wounds received in action with Indians on the day before, at Casco (now Portland), ME.
The Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England before 1692, James Savage, notes that George Bramhall was at Dover 1670, Casco 1678. Killed by the Indians 1689, left widow Martha, children Joseph, George, Hanna and Joshua, all removed to Plymouth. George was at Hingham 1733. Hannah married Jonathan Hall of Harwich and Joshua ret. to Falmouth 1729 there lived some years but went again to Plymouth.
Ron Romano, a volunteer for the organization called Spirits Alive at Eastern Cemetery in Portland, emailed in May 2013 that "the late 1600s was a very challenging time up here for the settlers with respect to their conflicts with the natives. The Indians were understandably angered that the settlers just came in and claimed ownership of the land, and the threat of attack on the settlement was ever-present. George Bramhall (Cornelius & Capt. Joseph's grandfather) was a victim of probably the most brutal attack in 1689, where the entire settlement was burned to the ground, and any of the settlers who could not escape to the boats were slaughtered. I've read that the dead were simply left where they fell, and that 25 years later when the area was re-settled, the new wave of white people found bones of the settlers of the 1689 attack scattered all over the settlement (after all, there was nobody there to properly bury the dead). So we know George died here, but there is no surviving gravesite for him."
Ron later emailed that he looked at a book owned by the Maine Historical Society titled the "History of Cumberland County, Maine," which was written in 1880. The battle with the Indians of September 21, 1689 is quite well documented, naming names of those injured and killed. George Bramhall was among those listed, with the author saying he was wounded in the September 21, 1689 battle and died of those wounds after the battle.
Ron Romano also found a map of "Portland" produced by Greater Portland Landmarks with a map of the area from 1690. At the time it was called Falmouth. Originally Falmouth was the larger area and Portland separated out to become its own community later on. Falmouth still exists, just smaller in size and immediately north of portland on the coats, and it shows plotted homes of a few of the settlers, with number 12 being George Bramhall. Even though George had been killed a year previously, it appears that his estate still owned that plat of land. Perhaps this is why some of his family later moved back to the area.
Frank J. Bramhall shows that he was at Hingham in 1733. Sometimes shown as born in Barnstable, Mass. Ron Romano notes that a George Bramhall was indexed as being buried a the "Old Burial Hill" in Plymounth, Mass.

Sarah Bramhall Biles and Eileen Bramhall Have both show that he was a Sea Captain, dying in Jamaica ca 1751. FindAGrave instead lists his date of death as 26 Jan 1758, in the West Indies, near Jamaica. Further notes on the website show he died "In his 36th year. Husband of Mrs. Sarah Bramhall." A photo of a gravemarker is not shown on FindAGrave.
Ron Romano notes that Capt. Joseph Bramhall was indexed as being buried a the "Old Burial Hill" in Plymounth, Mass.
Frank J. Bramhall shows that he died in Whitesborough, now Meredith, New York. Sarah Bramhall Biles showed that he had lived in Dutchess County, New York prior to this.
A Joseph Bramhall, who died "in his 62nd year" on 17 Sept 1805 is among the Bramhalls' buried at the Burial Hill in Plymouth. This may or may not be the same Joseph that was the son of Capt. Joseph Bramhall and Sarah Tilson. The date of death matches, but the birth year is off (1743 vs. 1751). It is also possible that as Joseph died in Delaware County, New York, he might also have been buried there.
Joshua Bramhall was a clothier (id est cloth man, fr.) and owned a fulling mill in Plymouth; was a man of great energy and business capacity, and accumulated a large property. In 1729 he moved from Plymouth to Falmouth, and lived on the farm left by his father George Bramhall, until 1759, when he again returned to Plymouth, where he lived until his death in 1763. The large property left by his father remained in the family until 1759, when it was sold by the heirs to William Vaughn, and it is probable that the purpose of Joshua's removal to Falmouth in 1729, was to effect an advantageous sale of the property, and to close up the settlement of his father's estate. For further particulars of the life of Joshua Bramhall, see "Landmarks of Plymouth" by William T. Davis. See also letter of W.T. Davis (the historian) to W.L. Bramhall, Plymouth, Mass., Dec 4th 1886.)

James W. Bramhall posted "I found grave sites for my eighth great grandparents in the Pilgrims Cemetary Plymouth, MA on both sides. I also found Sarah Tillson's grave site. The grave sites are #444, #445 & #453. I also have found a tax record for George Bramhall in Dover, MA "1650" much earlier than the 1680 time frame reported in the Bramhalls in America book. I have also found lineage from the Mayflower through Sarah Tillson's mother who is buried next to Sarah. On her grave stone, it indicated that she was the only daughter of Col. Tom Doty. Tom Doty is a direct decendant of Edward Doty of the Mayflower."

If the marriage date of Sylvanus Bramhall to Mary Bennett is correct (6 May 1753), then it is possble that Mary, born in 1751, is not their daughter.
Appears to have married second Mercy Warren on 7 Oct 1786 in Plymouth, Mass, and they were the parents of Benjamin Bramhall. There is a memorial on FindAGrave for Mercy Bramhall, no maiden name or parents listed, which shows that she died on 21 Mar 1798, at the age of 77 years.

Wynema McGrew writes that Zadock was a member of the Choctaw Indian Nation, but it is unknown which parent was the Choctaw. He apparently was married prior to his marriage to Ann, because he and an unnamed son owed $431.26 at the Choctaw Trading House in St. Stephens, Mississippi Territory. The listing of debtors was dated 1 Oct 1822, and his credit rated good. The first mention of his indebtedness to the Trading House was 31 Dec 1819, and in the 31 Mar 1831 report of those with balances dues, he and an unamed son were listed. He signed by his mark the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek, dated 28 Sept 1830. Several Brashears, one of whom was Zadock, applied to remain five years and become citizens of the State [United States]. The date of entry of Zadock's application was 13 Jun 1831, and he had two children under the age of ten years and one child over ten years. "Half Breed man" was written in the remarks column.
Wynema McGrew shows the 1830 deed between Zadoc and son, Jesse Brashears. (Deed Book B, Page 141, dated 12 Mar 1830).
Was in the armed services, stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Worked for over 40 years as an independant trucker. Primarily he hauled grain from Oklahoma and Texas to the Port of Houston.
Email from Betty Strong on January 19, 2000: "Just a note to keep everyone informed. On Tuesday, 17 Jan., Jim Brasher (Caroline's husband) was transferring grain from his truck to the grain elevator in Chickasha, OK when he slipped into the augur and mangled his legs. His right leg below the knee had to be amputated. They have reconstructed his left leg and waiting to see if it will work. This is a sad time for all of the Strong's and his (Jim's) many friends and acquaintances. He is in the University Hospital in Okla. City. He is still heavily medicated. Caroline, Andy, & Libby are with Jim."
Obituary
James Earl "Jim" Brasher, 78, passed away peacefully at home Saturday July 15, 2017, in Duncan, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2017, in the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glenn McGee officiating. Burial will follow in the Duncan Cemetery under the direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home. Military honors will be provided by the Stephens County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends on Monday Evening, 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jim was born on Nov. 10, 1938, in a pre-Civil War cabin in rural Decatur County, Tennessee, near the town of Decaturville. Jim, nicknamed "Red", was the fourth of eight children of his beloved parents Elvin and Flora Brasher. Jim entered the U.S. Army in 1957 and served as a radio operator overseas in Thule, Greenland. In 1959, while stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, he met Mary Caroline Strong from Duncan. They fell in love and were married on May 28, 1960. The newlyweds settled in Duncan, where they raised their four children and became life-long residents.
Jim worked at Halliburton in the shop from 1961 to 1972. Combining his love of trucks, people, and the outdoors, he bought a hay truck in 1967 and spent summers after work hauling hay around Stephens County for many farmers and ranchers. In 1974, Jim bought a semi-truck and started hauling grain and hay over the road as an independent owner-operator. The challenge and freedom of this way of life perfectly suited his spirit of independence, and provided a good living.
The family made many great memories on vacations to Tennessee, Colorado, and Texas. He also loved the role of "local tour guide" for any visitors. When Jim lost a leg in an accident in 2000, his positive attitude and strong character drove him to persevere, and he was back trucking again the next year.
Jim had a strong passion for honoring fellow veterans by helping them obtain the disability benefits they deserved by offering them transportation and crucial guidance through the VA system. After retirement in 2010, he was a fixture at the Duncan VFW where he enjoyed playing cards with many friends.
Jim's smile, winning personality, strong work ethic, and selfless dedication to helping others were hallmarks of his character. Jim never met a stranger, and never failed to aid someone in need, even if they didn't ask. Jim was a dedicated and beloved husband, father and grandfather who was proud of his kids and grandkids. He cherished spending time visiting with every one of his family and friends.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Paul, Jerry and Larry and sister Mary Ruth and beautiful granddaughter Alexandra.
Jim is survived by his wife, Caroline Brasher, of Duncan; Regina Stuart, and her husband, Don; Libby Morris and her husband, Terry; Andy Brasher and wife Kim; and Patti Moore and her husband Steve. Grandchildren Brandon, Shelby, Beau, Victoria, Trevor, Caroline, Jeremy, Caelan, Shannon and Kathleen. Great-grandchildren Jackson, Addison, James, Elizabeth and Clay all of whom he loved and was so very proud of.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Duncan VFW Post 1192, 2012 N. Hwy 81, Duncan, OK 73533.
Pallbearers were Butch Johnson, Randy Montgomery, Red Lowe, Jimmy Ledford, Roy McCauley, Darryl Loveday and Dayne Ledford

The daughter of Joseph and Terezie Zeman Braum. She came to American with her parents in 1880 and settled in section 31 in Liberty Township, Fillmore County. (History of Milligan, Nebraska, p 228)
Joseph, Terezie and their three children, Johanna, Anna, and Joseph left Bohemia and sailed to America in 1879. Joseph purcahsed land from the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad company on February 5, 1880 to purchase land at the S 1/2 NW 1/4 in Section 31 of Liberty Township, Fillmore County, Nebraska. Turkey Creek flowed through the middle of their eighty acres. The high bank along the creek gave them protection from the winds. Joseph was a farmer and brick maker. Along the banks of the Turkey Creek they must have found clay of such quality that it could be used for brickmaking. They imprinted a large "B" on each of the bricks they made. Joseph's bricks can still be found in the chimneys and walls of cellars and homes in the neighborhood. In 1889, the Braums decided to leave Nebraska and travel to the Oklahome territory for free land. The Braums settled into what was later to become Oklahoma City. In 1891, they sold their farm in Nebraska to Frank Keberle, whose family still owns that land. (Milligan, p 209)
