Frankie Dee Gardner, 82, died at her residence in Lake Jackson on Friday, October 12, 2012.
Frankie, the only child of Horace and Fern Gomer Moore, was born in her grandparents Josh and Luthenia Gomer's home in Sabinetown, near Low's Creek, on January 23, 1930. She grew up in Beaumont where she graduated from Beaumont High School in 1947 and in 1949 from Lamar Junior College where she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. While there, she was active in the Speech Dept, and was a member of the Debate Team, which won 1st place in a series of debates with other Junior Colleges of Texas. In 1951, she graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in English and Speech from Southern Nazarene University, where she was a member of Phi Delta Lambda, a national honor society. Frankie loved poetry, and enjoyed giving poetic readings.
She married John Gardner in 1950, and in 1953 moved to Lake Jackson when John was employed at Dow Chemical. She was active in the Freeport Church of the Nazarene, serving as Teen Sunday School teacher until 1971 when she was involved in organizing the Lake Jackson Church of the Nazarene where she became a charter member. She served the church in various capacities: S.S.teacher, Children's Director, VBS Director, Missionary president, teen Bible Quiz director, church board member, and church historian. On many occasions, Frankie served as narrator for Christmas and Easter cantatas.
Frankie worked many years as a substitute teacher at Lake Jackson Intermediate School.
She was a charter member of the James Frederick Gomer Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Hemphill. She was a direct descendent of J.F. Gomer and Isaac Low, who settled on Low's Creek a decade before Texas became a republic. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter-in-law, Sandi. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, John of Lake Jackson; four children, Jeryl Gardner (and Anita) of Zephyr Cove, NV, Randy Gardner of Sabinetown, TX, GayLynn Gardner of Lake Jackson and Dr. Kevin Gardner (and Hilary) of Waco; six grandchildren, Lenny Gardner of Houston, Hunter Gardner (and Eve) of Austin, Cassidy Gardner (and Amber), of Humble, TX, Terry Nevil of Lexington, KY, Crystal Nevil of Danville, KY, and Graham Gardner of Waco; great-grandchildren, Lilah Gardner of Humble, and Sylas Gardner of Austin. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be at Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene, 3007 Hiway 332 in Lake Jackson on Thursday at 10:30am. On Friday at 10:00am, there will be visitation at Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill, followed by graveside service and interment at 12:30pm. Pallbearers at Harper Chapel Cemetery will be the Grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Frankie Gardner Prayer Garden at Cornerstone Church, 3007 Hiway 332, Lake Jackson, TX 77566.
Hamutal - kinsman of the dew, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah, wife of King Josiah, and mother of King Jehoahaz (2 Kings 23:31), also of king Zedekiah (2 Kings 24:18). URL: http://www.trellis.net/users/freshwaters/ebd/List-h.htm The name is sometimes is spelled as Hamital, depending on which Bible translation you use.
However, on 30 July 1785, Hamutal Moore, the widow of Peter Foy signed her name, in her own adult hand, unmistakably as "Hamutal Foy," and not as "Hamital," on the receipt to a petition to the Commissioners of the State of South Carolina, requesting outstanding military pay and interest still due to her deceased husband. It looks to me as if the unpaid salary was 85 Pounds, and as if the accrued interest was 12 Pounds, 2 Shillings, and 10 Pence.
WILL of Hamutal (nee Moore, m. 1st Foy, m. 2d) WILSON. Dated 22 October 1806 and Probated on 20 April 1810. Daughters: Martha Hill, Elizabeth Gains, Hamutal Foy, Rebecca Oharron (O'Hara), Sally House [Howze], Louisa Foy. Sons: James Foy, William Foy, Frederick Foy, Benedict Bourgeon. Step-sons: Joab and Jeremiah Wilson. Executors: Sons-in-Law James House [Howze] and James Oharron (O'Hara). Witnesses: John Pope, Louis Mobley, Patrick Ardogh. Page 276 of Edgefield Co., SC, Will Book. Cited in Abstracts of Wills, Edgefield Co., SC. Published by Delwyn Associates, Atlanta, GA, 1973, page 39.
Sally (sometimes "Salley") Wilson, b. 1790 in Edgefield District, SC, was the daughter of Hamutal Moore FOY and Hamutal's second husband, William Wilson. Although the Will names Sally's husband as James HOUSE, I have found the most frequent spelling to be James HOWZE. Other members of this family also seem to have continued the spelling as HOWZE.

His obituary was published in The Corpus Christi Caller-Times on Sunday, May 12, 1976.
"---He had been a resident of this county since 1952. Born in Beeville, Texas, he was a retired pot tender for Reynolds Metal Company. He was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista. Survivors include his wife, Benita, six sons, Daniel Moreno of Corpus Christi, David of El Paso, Epifanio Jr of Houston, Mario of Germany, Adolfp of Anaheim, Calif, and a stepson Tony Sanchez of Corpus Christi, four daughters, Mrs. Geneve Fernadez, Mrs. Marian Salinsa, Miss Pearl Moreno, all of Corpus Chrisit, and a step daughter, Mrs. Amada Salinas of Beeville, four sisters...22 grandchildren....interment..Rose Hill Memorial Park."
His Texas Death Certificate shows he was the son of Perciliana Moreno and Vicenta Martinez. Location of birth listed as Musquiz, Coah, Mexico. He was a retired merchant and widowed. Informant was Robert G. Moreno, presumably his son. He was shown as being a resident of San Antonio for 50 years (since about 1913, matching the 1920 census) and his street address was 3215 So. Flores Street.
In 1924, Heliodoro was naturalized as a United States Citizen. He Declaration of Intention shows he was 41 years old at that time, married to Tomosa, also born in Mexico. The date and location of his birth differ from other records, being recorded as 8 July 1882, in Nuevo Leon on the Declaration, versus 7 May 1882 in Coahuilia on his death certficate and Find a Grave. His address, however, matches the one shown on the 1920 census, 1124 So. San Jacinto St, San Antonio. It therefore appears this document was for the same Heliodoroa Moreno who married Tomasa Garza.
He stated that he arrived in Eagle Pass, Texas on April 15, 1910 from Monterrey, on the Mexican International Ry, having been a resident of Nuevo Leon before he immigrated.

Shown on Family Search as a son of Jose Priciliano Moreno Martinez and Vicenta Gonzalez, both of Marin, Nuevo Leon. This matches his Texas Death Certificate.

Her maiden name is assumed to be Moreno based on the Texas Death certificate of daughter Annie Peckham Esparza. When he registered for the draft, during World War II, he listed his name as Prisciliano Garza Moreno. His address was shown as 1208 N. Flores (with 1221 Torreon first written, and then lined through). His place of birth was shown as Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. His next of kin was listed as his wife, Encarnacion Garcia Moreno, who still resided as 1221 Torreon. His employer was Carol Schea, with the place of employment noted as 1322 N. Flores.
Family Search has a record for Prisciliano Moreno Moreno, with a very similar date of birth, 23 May 1906, christening 20 May 1911 in Zaragoza, Coahuila, Mexico. [Source: San Fernando de Rosa, Baptism Records, 1909-1913] No location of birth is shown, and the year is off by exactly one year. This Prisciliano is shown as a son of Eleodora Moreno Gonzalez and Tomasa Moreno Garza, so it appears to be the same person.
The family makeup matches the 1920 Federal Census for San Antonio, Texas, when Preciliano was living at home with his parents.
His obituary, published in The San Antonio Express News, 20 June 1975, page 28 noted he was born in Mexico and had been a resident of San Antonio for 65 years, survived by daughter Mrs. Beatrice Garcia, sons Albert Roy Moreno of San Antonio, Mr. Henry Alfred Moreno of Detroit, Mr. Oscar Alex Moreno of Wooster, OH, sister Mrs. Aurora Moreno, brother Robert Moreno and 9 grandchildren. His residence was 4110 Waikiki Drive.

*In 1930, a Juanita Garcia age 12 was living on Lockhill Selma with a younger brother, Pedro and their father, Epifanio Garcia, about 1897 in Texas. This could be a different Juanita Garcia, based on both her age (only 9 years older in 1940 than she was in 1930) and more importantly that younger sister Lenora was not in the same household. Need to verify before adding Epifanio Garcia as her father.

Nan located a copy of a deed from the Heirs of Daniel Morgan to John McLemore. The heirs were deeding the "160 acres of land granted by the state of Texas to said Daniel Morgan by Patent No. 550, Vol 41, and dated Feb 3, 1874 said 160 acres being community property of said Daniel and Mary Morgan to John McLemore." This deed was dated May 1886.
The heirs listed, "being the only surviving heirs of said decedents....(were) James Morgan, Elizabeth Jones, Owen Morgan, heirs at law....(and also) the following named persons who are the grandchildren of the said decedents, viz: J.F. McLemore and Mary Ann Horn and her husband Elma Horn, Jesse Morgan and Allie Morgan, Ebenezer B. Lee, Timothy Lee, Angelina Watson and her husband John Watson." (Vol P, Page 367)

Daniel and Mary's two oldest children had left home prior to the above census. Son James was already in Jasper County, Texas, listed as a laborer in the home of 74 year old Elijah ISAACS of South Carolina. Elijah ISAACS is said to be the son of Samuel ISAACS and Mary MORGAN of Lincoln Co., TN; Pendleton Co, S.C, Wilkes Co, N.C. and Lincoln Co, TN.
Daughter Sarah, along with her husband John McLemore, lived two households away (516/516) from her parents in Decatur County. Also living nearby was Daniel's nephew, Malachi Morgan.
The family moved westward, as in 1860, they could be found in Jasper County, Texas:

Ruby Boyett Burkett reports that two of Daniel and Mary's two youngest daughters, Elizabeth and Dorcus, stayed behind in Georgia. Both of them were widowed during the Civil War, and they journeyed from Georgia to Texas by boat. Daniel met the boat in Galveston, taking his daughters and grandchildren back to Jasper by wagon. Daniel himself was widowed at the time of the 1870 Federal census, and can be found living with this daughter Elizabeth Jones:

No one of this age was enumerated in the home of Daniel Morgan at the time of the 1840 census.
Listed as Daniel, age 12 in 1850.
Listed as David, age 22, a Domestic, in 1860.
Can not locate on the 1870 or subsequent census reports.
Not listed as an heir of Daniel Morgan in 1886. Did he die before 1886?
At the time of the 1860 census, Duncan Morgan (Daniel's brother) had two young men with the last name of Morgan listed as "Domestics" in his home. Nan McCoy Kittell says these two family members were actually slaves, and not family members Could the same be true for this Daniel/David Morgan? Maybe this is why he is not listed with the family after the Civil War, and also why he is not listed as a heir.

In her letter dated 12 September 1999, Jo Ann Lee Gartig writes that "Kenneth (Morgan) has asked me to pass on to you the information which he learned at the Morgan cemetery off the road to Roganville. This small square of land, surrounded by upright concrete posts with two strands of clothesline wire strung through them to provide a fence, is located on the back boundary of property now owned by an elderly gentleman named Leroy Walker. Mr. Walker did not know much about the history of the cemetery or the people in it, but he did say there was an Indian there. This might be Mary Morgan, wife of Daniel...The "rights" to the cemetery belong to W.D. "Bill" Morgan, and 83 year old man living in Orange, Texas. Bill Morgan keeps the cemetery cleaned. The cemetery has one double headstone which reads:
Duncan Morgan 6-08-1806 5-26-1881 Elizabeth Morgan 7-24-1816 4-12-1903
There were also seven ironstone rocks marking other graves.
In searching for this cemetery, Kenneth had stopped at houses along the road to ask about its locality. At the third house he came to, he learned from Mr. J.F. Ferguson that Kenneth's ancestors property was just up the road on Everitts Creek where the ancestor had once had a gristmill. This is how Kenneth met Mr. Walker and was shown the cemetery.
This cemetery by-the-way, is located on the headright of M.L. Morgan.
In a postscript to the letter dated 13 September 1999, Jo Ann adds that she called Bill Morgan at his home. He is the one responsible for placing the headstone for Duncan and Elizabeth Morgan in the "old Morgan cemetery" near Roganville. Unfortunately, he does not know about any of the other graves. He seemed to remember that a young boy was buried there. After I related the story of Dorcus Morgan Lee's youngest son Elias Banto (Lee) having bled to death after cutting his foot as a young teen, he recalled that his father had told that story also. It seems that the boy was at the grist mill on Everitts Creek which borders the land where the cemetery is when the accident happened. Whether this boy was Elias Banto Lee or not we will probably never know.

Nan stated that both family tradition and the Jasper 1860 census indicate that two member's of the Morgan family listed in 1850 and 1860 were actually slaves rather than children: G.W. age 18, and Joseph age 17, both listed as being "domestics." It is noted that neither were still living with the family after the Civil War.

Isaac and Sarah had one more daughter that I know of, E. A. Morgan, born about 1873, who was living with her maternal grandfather, Lemuel May, on the 1880 census in Florida, Jefferson, E.D. 6, Precinct 8, page 16.
At the time of the 1920 census, the widow was living with three of her daughters, Cloa, Bertie and Lottie, and her 7 year old grandson Daren. It is not know whose son Daren was. Bertie appeared to be the only family member that was employed at the time the census was taken. She was listed as a sales lady at a retail store.
Said by some to have been born in Surry County, NC, but no proof cited. This seems unlikely as the family was listed in Sampson County as of the 1830 census.
Carolyn Lockhart wrote that after the death of Sion Jones in Georgia "Elizabeth sold her land in Decatur County (ca 1868) and came to Texas. She and [her widowed sister] Dorcas Lee had about 9 children with them. Someone met them in Galveston and it was the first time she had ever seen an iron cook stove. She instructed her kids not to mention their Indian ancestry. She herself never mentioned it even though she always wore fringes on her dresses to remind her own self of her heritage. She was 61 when she died, never remarried and never filed a pension from Sion Jones CSA record."
In a letter from Carolyn Lockhart, she states that Elizabeth died in the home of her oldest son, Newton B. Jones. Like the Morgan's, the Jones family were also of Welsh ancestry. The Hawthorne family were neighbors in Georgia and also in Jasper County.
Ruby Boyett showed she died in 1897, but this can not be correct as (1) she had a daughter born in 1899 (2) she can be found on the 1900 census with her husband and children and (3) her tombstone is said to be inscribed 13 Dec 1902.
Said by Jeanie Trimble & Ed Webb to have married Joshua James Blanton IV. Elizabeth and Joshua had a very large family in Shady Grove, Taylor County, Florida.
Enoch Morgan, age 20-30, female of the same age, one boy and one girl, both under the age of 5. The house immediately preceding his was that of his father, Rueben.
