In 1954, Pleasant McLemore of Texas, the youngest son of Keton Jones McLemore (born ca. 1809 in Kentucky), wrote that..."I know nothing about his [my father, Keton's,] brothers, though corespondd for some time with his nephew of Alabama and his youngest son came to see me when he was released from the Navy, his dads name is Carl S. McLemore a farmer in Scottsboro, Alabama."

Unable to locate him on either the 1920 or 1930 census with his parents and siblings. However, the 1949 obituaries of both his parents, found on their FindAGrave memorial pages, both list a son, Carlos McLemore of Detroit.
At the time of the 1940 census, he was a resident of Detroit, Michigan, a boarder in the home of Jno. McKennon of Michigan, and listed as Carlos McLemore, age 29, born in Alabama, working as a bell boy at Joliet?. He had resided in Athens, Alabama five years previously.
There is a photo of Carlos on his memorial marker, which can be seen at FindAGrave.

Not shown by Mark Freeman as a daughter of Amos and Elizabeth McLemore, but she is listed in their home at the time of the 1850 census, as well as being listed as a daughter by April Makerney. April further shows that she married Ezekial W. ASHLEY, born in Mobile, Alabama. Joyce Sentell confirms that she married a Mr. Ashley. He was said to have died in the Civil War, however, Confederate Pension records show him dying in 1888.
In 1880 she and Ezekiel were living with their children in Anderson County, Texas. In 1900, she was living with son George and his family, still in Anderson County.
In 1910, a Catherine Ashley , age 91 and born in Mississippi, was living in Caney, Atoka, Oklahoma with a John and Lulla Ashley. This MIGHT BE Catherine with her son John Ashley. However each of them are shown on that 1910 census as more than 10 years older than they are shown in most other records. At 91, Catherine would have been born in 1819, versus 1832. John Ashley was shown as being born in 1849, also in Mississippi, versus 1858.

Her daughter, Michael Stropkai Boshears emailed, in February 2014, that "my mother, Tin Lea Stropkai, was formerly named Cecil Audrey Lea McLemore. Like me, she was named after her father, Cecil, later changing it to Tin (a nickname given to her by her father) after the courthouse that held her birth records burnt down. "
She was married to Michael Joseph Stropkai. They were residents of Anchorage, Alaska. They had four children, Regan of Anchorage; Judy of Wasilla, Alaska; Roy Anthony "Scotty" who was a resident of Anchorage (now deceased); and Michael, a resident of Palmer, Alaska since 2000. His Tennessee Death certificate showed his usual occupation as Railroading, and indicated he died as a result of being "pistol shot through stomach and abdominal aorta" The informant was his father, Hiram, a resident of Craggie Hope, Tenn.
He was shown in his granddaughter's baby book as the son of Earnest McLemore and Carrie Smith. His listing on the California Death Index confirms that his mother's maiden name was SMITH. According to his World War I draft registration card, Cecil was born July 31, 1886 in Kirbyville, Texas. When he registered for the draft, on June 5, 1917, we was single and living in Davis, Oklahoma, working at Farming for Jim Fountine. Cecil was described as Medium heighth and build, with Grey eyes and Brown Hair. He was not a veteran.

She appears to have been living with her mother at the time of the 1930 census. Although she was listed as married, no husband was present in the home. She was shown as the mother of James E. MITCHELL, a newborn.
Rebecca Mullinex emailed in July, 2009 that she never knew her grandmother to go by the name Celeste, but instead knew her always as Amelia Lessie McLemore. Rebecca added that "Lessie was born in 1905. She married James Herman Mitchell (born 1907) and had my father, James Edward Mitchell April 5, 1930. She was living with her parents when the 1930 census was taken. She died sometime in the 1940's according to a living nephew - Gene McLemore (he remembered he was away in the army when he recieved the news) but does not know where she is buried or what year she died. The only siblings I knew as a very small child were Walter Amos McLemore (when I was a child, he was referred to as "Uncle Amos") and his wife Inez, and a sister Elma McLemore that we called "Auntie" who lived in the same town as we did for a few years. But being a child, never thought to ask about family history. I remember LeRoy McLemore being killed when I was very young. He was shot in a robbery, I believe, Eastabuthie, MS. down the road from what was called the "Old Place" on Hwy 11.

James L. McLemore, III writes that "Charles received the second third of his father Burwell's plantation. Charles married Lucy ROWE, daughter of John ROWE...He died just over twenty years later, and his will dated July 29, 1818, was admitted to probate in Sussex County on October 15, 1818 (Sussex Will Book H, p. 527). In it he named five children: Richard McLemore, who married Mildred A. BRITT....and who owned (and mortgaged) land in Greensville County; William S. McLemore, who sold his share in his father's estate in 1826 (Sussex Deed Book P, p. 23), and disappears from the records (presumably moving away); Mary Ann McLemore, who married Jesse SLEDGE...; Martha McLemore who married James DUNN of Greensville County...her brother William S. acting as security on their bond...and Frances L. "Fanny" McLemore, who was married to Thomas NEWTON... Charles' widow Lucy was left all property for her lifetime with which to raise and educate the children until the youngest turned 21. She herself died intestate in about 1838 (Southampton Order Book 18, p. 459)."
James L. McLemore suspected, due to Charles's baptism information not being recorded in the Albermarle Parish Register, that Charles was one of the younger sons of Burwell and Amy, born in the late 1760's or early 1770's.
However, Jim White (jim4@whitesnet.net) emailed that "Charles McLemore was born before 1760, administered his father's estate - He married twice, 1st, Hardy Sammons December 30, 1783 - He had several children by her. He did marry as his 2nd wife, Lucy Rowe, October 16, 1797."

At the time of the 1900 census, a Charles R. McLemore, born Mar 1874 in Mississippi and listed as single, was a Servant in the home of Thomas and Margaret Honeycutt of Extra Township, Ashley County, Arkansas. This appears to be Charles Riley McLemore.
At the time of the 1910 census, he was living with his brother Albert in Seminole County, OK and listed as widowed. It therefore appears he married sometime between 1900 and 1910, and was widowed within that period as well.
The following message board post indicates that he may have been the widower of Bessie Belle Williams:
Isaac Matthew McLemore married Affie/Affy Williams Dec. 19, 1889 in Clarke Co., MS. Isaac's brother, Charles Riley McLemore married Bessie Belle Williams, sister of Affie. Does anyone have any information at all on the family of Affie and Bessie Bell Williams?

In 1920 he was remarried, and listed with his wife and daughter in Choctaw County, Oklahoma, and by 1930 the family had moved to Fisher County, Texas.
His brother's 1940 obituary referred to him as being "...of Hugo," so it appears he returned from Texas to Oklahoma.

Clyde McLemore, junion member of the firm of Booth and McLemore of Baker, is an able lawyer, a strong debator and brillant orator. Possessed of a strong and commanding mind, unusual ability and admirable personal quailities, he has become a well-known figure of the Montana bar, rendering conspicuous service in his able conduct of the cases entrursted to him, discharging what he believes to be his duty with independence and without bias. He will never permit fear of political punishment or hope of reward to change his attitude on a matter of public concern, and is recognized as one of the forceful ment of his profession.
Clyde McLemore was born near Everton, Dade County, Missouri, on March 29, 1883, a son of William Y. and grandson of Archibald McLemore. The McLemore family came originally from Scotland through the north of Irelan to the United States during the Colonial period of this country's history, settlement being made first in North Carolina and later in Tennessee. During 1849, Archibald McLemore with several of his brothers left Tennessee for Missouri, and there became interested in farming. When the war broke out between the states the McLemore brothers adhered to the Union, and continued to support it, several of them entering the army in its defense. Archibald McLemore married Mary Brown, and they had five children.
William Y. McLemore was born in Missouri, where he spent his life, being engaged in merchandising. He married Claranette Wheeler, a daughter of Calvin and Asenith (Carlock) Wheeler. Mrs. McLemore was born in Dade County, Missouri, and she and her husband became the parents of the following children: Clyde, whose name heads this review; Clarence, who is a banker of Everton, Missouri; Forest, who is wife of Boyd Campbell, of Warner, Oklahoma; Ray, who served in the Eighty-ninth Division during the Great war, is now engaged in merchandising at Everton, Missouri; Carl, who is also a resident of Everton; and Dewey and Gretta, who are both residents of Everton.
Growing up in a country town, Clyde McLemore attended the village schools, the Everton High School and the academic department of Missouri State University, spending 18 months in the last-named institution. Following that he took a law course in the university, from which he graduated in 1911, with the degree of Doctor of Law. His fraternity work was done as a member of the Sigma Chi and Phi Delta Phi Greek letter societies. An athlete, he was a member of the university baseball team, with which he played for an entire season.
Having completed his legal training Mr. McLemore took the examinations at Guthrie, Oklahoma, and was admitted to practice before the Supreme County, and he was also admiited to the bar in Missouri. His first lawsuit was tried in Oklahoma, and it was an ordinary civil case. As long as he remained in Oklahoma he confied himself to a civil practice, being at Muskogee, that state, from 1911 to 1912, when he moved to Billings, Montana, there forming a partnership with E. E. Collins under the firm name of Collins and McLemore. For some years this was one of the strong legal firms of Billings, but then it dissolved and Mrs. McLemore became title examiner for the Bankers Loan & Mortgage Company of Billings, with which he remained until his retirement from that position in the early part of 1919 in order to locate permanently at Baker as an associate of Senator Booth. The first of Booth & McLemore was formed in May, 1919. In addition to his other work Mr. McLemore has contributed a number of articles to some ofhte leading law journals of the country. In his politics he has always been a republican and he cast his first presidential vote for Colonel Roosevelt in 1904, but has never taken an active part in the public affairs. For some years he has been a member of the Odd Fellows. Brought up ina strong Presbyterian home atmosphere he is naturally a member of that denomination.
On August 7, 1907, Mr. McLemore was united in marriage in his native county to Lucy Talbutt, a daughter of Mason and Clara (Kimber) Talbutt. Mrs. McLemore was born in Dade County, Missouri on March 28, 1888, and attended its public schools. Mr. and Mrs. McLemore have two children, Felicia, who was born in 1910; and Claranette, who was born in 1913.
