McGuire, Henry David ca 1940 at his dugout This photo was taken in front of his dugout home east of Camargo, Oklahoma. Henry was an apprentice for a stone mason in Lexington, Alabama, moving to Kansas at the age of sixteen with his employer. While in Kansas, Henry also apprenticed as a carriage maker and blacksmith. After completing his training, he started his own blacksmith shop--initially in Lawrence, and eventually relocating to Osage City, Kansas. This is where he met and married Mamie Kuykendall. They later moved to Oklahoma, where they raised their six children.
