Striffler, John ca 1910-1920 John Striffler was one of the earliest settlers in Cass City, Michigan. "Uncle John" arrived in the late 1850's, along with his wife, Mary Benkelman, They acquired a farm one mile east and one mile north of the village of Cass City, and addition to farming he was a carpenter, blacksmith, and lumberman. Just south of his house he had a sorghum mill to make maple syrup. Three of his brothers and a sister, as well as various Benkelman in-law's, followed he and Mary to Cass City
