Hemphilll Elementary School Fifth Grade -1939-1940
Eighteen students from a larger group, pictured, graduated from Hemphill High School's Class of 1946 who recently enjoyed their 60th class reunion. LaNell Short, 79, of Sabine County died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007. LaNell was born on April 23, 1928, in Pendelton. She was a caregiver and worked in nursing homes and private care. LaNell is survived by four daughters, Deborah ADKISON and husband Guy of Carthage, Charlene NEAL and husband Bob of Hemphill, Donna CAMPBELL of Carthage and Truitta SHORT of Pineland; a special niece and nephew, Shelia ANDERSON of Milam and Jack KELLAM of Beaumont; six grandchildren, Kim RITCHER, Kalisha BOYD, Ken KILCREASE Jr., Kandace FRICK, Kris HARDY, and Jamie RISSINGER; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Starr Funeral Home Chapel in Hemphill. Interment followed at King Cemetery near Milam. Services were under the direction of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill.
