    Notes
    • In July, 2009, Melanie Powers (mpmusic30646@yahoo.com) emailed that this was her great-great grandmother.

She was listed with her family in the 1850 and 1860 censuses of Madison County, Georgia. She married Kinchen Milton Strickland on March 9, 1862 in Danielsville, Georgia. She took the Loyalty Oath in about 1866, listed as Letty Strickland, age 21. Her children with Kinchen Milton Strickland are: Paralie (1866), Lavonia (1867-1934), LaFayette (1870-?) Obe (Otho?) (1873-1994), Clorinda (1876-1953), Charles (1878), Tyke (1880-1930), T.V (1882-1936), and Dugar (1884-1939).

Letty Ann was the daughter of Alphaeus Herring and his wife, Mariah Landers (per Madison County census and Marriage Book). According to the census, Alphaeus worked as a miller. After the war, he lived in Jackson County and worked at the C & J Mill. By 1880 he is in the Madison County Census listed as

Alphaeus was the son of Jonathan Herring and his wife Adelisa/Ardelisa. Letty's grandfather, Jonathan Herring, was born ca. 1777. A Jonathan Heron was listed as paying taxes in Clarke County in 1805. Jonathan paid taxes in Madison County beginning in 1817. He first appeared in the Madison County Census in 1820. At that time he had 2 sons under 10, two daughters 10-16, and he and his wife were listed as between 26-44.

In the 1830 census is Jonathan with only one son at home: 15-20. Jonathan and wife were listed as between 50-60.

In 1840, we find Alpheus Herring, aged between 20-30. His wife is listed as 30-40, and they have 2 sons under 5, 1 son 5-10, and one female in the house who could be her daughter from her previous marriage: 10-15.

In the 1850 census, we have the following families:
      1. Ardelisa, 62 and Jonathan, 73.
      2. Alpheus, 39, Mariah, 50, Elijah, 16, Henry, 14, Newton, 9,
      Benjamin, 8, and Letty, 6.

      John, 7, Tabitha 5, George 3, Mary 3, James 1

In the 1860 census, we find:
