Notes |
- A Celebration of Life for Autry Eugene (Pete) Peterson, 84, will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church, Lufkin, preceded by a visitation in the church parlor at 10 a.m. Pete was born March 1, 1940, in Houston County, Texas, to the late Reba Mae (Womack) and Eugene Robert Peterson. He went to be with his Lord on Friday, August 23, 2024.
Pete grew up in Crockett, Texas, graduating from Crockett High School ('58) and Henderson County Junior College, where he was an outstanding football player. He had a career in automotive sales, winning many prestigious awards. He had empathy for his customers and always put himself in the other person's shoes. Pete was a leader and a team-builder all of his life. He served as President of the Rotary Club and a Boy Scout leader in Livingston, as well as a coach of youth baseball in Lufkin. In 2002, Pete married the love of his life, Janet Tisdale Rawcliffe. They were happily married for 22 years.
To Pete, the most important part of life was his walk of faith. Baptized at the age of twelve in the name of Jesus Christ, he walked with the Lord, holding His hand, all the days of his life. He was active in lay leadership, participating throughout the years in Bible studies, prayer groups, choir, and renewal weekends, such as Faith Alive and Cursillo. He served as a vestryman and Senior Warden at St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church, as well as Director of a Cursillo weekend for the Diocese of Texas and Convener of the Order of St. Luke the Physician.
Pete's family and friends will remember him for his love, laughter, patience, and prayer.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Peterson; sister, Audrey Graham (David); son, Chris Peterson (Sally); daughter, Sherry Falk (Rick Retz); and son, L.J. Rawcliffe; graunddaughters: Deja Igbokwe, (Patrick); and Emily Rawcliffe; grandsons: Joshua, Andrew, O'Keefe, Blake, and Mason Peterson, and Eric Hampton, as well as many great-grandchildren, and all those in his extended, blended family, including special friends, Dian Brock and Reba Childress.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rebecca Knowls, and his sons, Donald Charles Peterson and David Lynn Peterson.
The family wishes to thank Lufkin Doctors Reel, Mangla, Carranza and their staffs, as well as the nurses and staff at Castle Pines, and Hospice in the Pines, for their loving care for many years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church, 919 S. John Redditt Dr., Lufkin, TX 75904 or to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Ave., Lufkin, TX 75904.
