Notes |
- In Kenneth Morgan's book, MORGAN'S EAST TEXAS TALES, he wrote that "Since my earliest memories, I have heard the old folks speak of "The Becky Field". (After her husband died) leaving Rebecca with five children still living at home, ranging in age from 4 to 17, and Carrol age thirty, who was crippled. With all the children pitching in, they tended the fields and raised enough produce for the family, with some left over to sell for cash money...."Aunt Becky" as she was called by friends and neighbors, ran cattle and hogs in the woods. She was a fine horsewoman, and sometimes rode with a baby on the saddle. In winter time, hogs were butchered, and the meat carried to town in the wagon, where it was peddled door to door. Becky heated big rocks ont he wood stove, wrapped them in burlap sacks, and placed them in front of the wagon to keep her feet warm on the long drive. When there was sickness or death in the community, she was always there to help in any way she could."
Her son, Albert Turner, was the informant on her death certificate.
