Survivors include his wife, Sarah Hawthorne of Vidor; a son, Max Hawthorne of Corona, Calif., daughters, Brenda O'Leary of Medford, N.Y., Terri Hawthorne and Toni Fregia, both of Vidor; brothers, Arthur Jack Hawthorne and Elliot Hawthorne, both of Kirbyville, Edward Hawthorne of Vidor, and Eston Hawthorne of Orange; sisters, Alice Spillers of Lake Jackson, and Ollnie Sheffield, Zelma Morgan and Crickett Armitage, all of Kirbyville; and five grandchildren.
