- In the STRIFFLER-BENKELMAN BROADCAST, Volume 9, September 2, 1946, in a column titled "School Days", it was noted that George J. Stinar was graduated from Lew Wallace H.S., Gary, Indiana, and set to join the Navy in the Fall. The Striffler-Benkelman Broadcast, Volume 10, September 1, 1947, further noted that PFC Stinar graduated from one of the training command's airplane mechanic training courses at Kessler Field. As of Volume 11, it was written that he had left Selfridge Field and successfully competed for the assignment to the flight of 16 F-80 "Shooting Star" jet planes making the first US Air Force transatlantic hop. He went to Maine, Scotland, Iceland, Greenland, England and Germay on this three month good-will tour.
