- When he registered for the draft during World War I, he listed his occupation as Farmer in Bon Wier, Texas. His nearest relative was shown as J. W. Powell of Merryville, Louisiana, his father. He was described as of Medium Heighth, Slender, with blue eyes and dark hair. On his registration for the World War II draft, he was still farming in Newton County, His place of birth was shown as Lees Mill versus Bon Wier. When asked for a name and address of a person who would always know his address, his answer was W. A. Newton.
His Texas Death Certificate lists him as a retired farmer, and a Widower. He had not served in the U.S. Armed Forces. At the time of his death, he lived at 3141 Proctor Street, Port Arthur, Texas. Informant on the death certificate was Carroll Powell, his oldest half brother.
