  Notes	His name was listed on the Decatur GA census EXTRACT as Oliver, in error. Carolyn Lockhart wrote that it was her understanding that Owen had never been married. Jo Ann Lee Gartig concurred, writing that "In following Owen through all the census records from GA to TX, I do not believe that Owen ever married because he was mentally retarded in some way. Decatur Co, 1850 Owen was 16 (and it read "Owen" on that microfilm because that is how I copied it before I ever saw "Oliver" on your paper). Jasper County census of 1860 Owen is 24 and listed as "domestic." 1870 Jasper County census clearly listed Owen, 38 as "idiot." 1880 Jasper County census shows Owen, 45, single, and brother to Dorcus. Ruby Boyett Burkett wrote that Owen was able to help his father with farming, so was not likely retarded. She understood that he did suffer seizures of some sort, and never married.
