- Email from Sharla Linex Johnson, received April 23, 2001:
My gggg Uncle, Elon CAMPBELL married Mary Strickland 1846 Sabine Parish, LA... in 1849, upon hearing the whereabouts and death of his father, they set off to Anderson CO., TX so that Elon could claim his 3rd of the share of his father's inheritance.
They are on the 1850 Anderson CO., TX census....They had two children in TX, and after 1853 and before 1860, they are back in Sabine Parish, LA. They had a child in 1853 Anderson CO., and they are on the 1860 Sabine Parish, census.
Mary was born abt. 1832 LA. Elon was born between 1809-1815 MS. I've recently heard from another STRICKLAND researcher, who says, Yes, Mary is the daughter of Noah.
Elon CAMPBELL married in Franklin CO. MS to Sarah Jane DUNN... at some point after 1840 he left his family there and evidently went to Sabine Parish, LA...I've often wondered why??? I thought it may be the CARTER's... his mother was Selah CARTER, born in MS.. abt 179?
Elon and Mary are in Desoto Parish, LA, in 1870.. He is listed as E A CAMPBELL, on both 1860-1870 census'. I'm really trying to find the CARTER connection... Was it them, who took Elon to Sabine Parish???
I have alot of info on the CAMPBELL's.... not really the CARTER's..
Thanks again for getting back to me... I hope this helps you with more on your STRICKLAND's.
