- SABINE COUNTY REPORTER 12 December 2001 Ava Toole
Lora Ava Woods Toole, 87, of Hemphill lost her battle with cancer Saturday morning, December 8, 2001 in Houston, with her family around her.
Ava was born in Broaddus on Nov. 9, 1914, and was a resident of Hemphill for more than 50 years.
Ava is preceded in death by her son, Keith Toole.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Joe Toole; son Ron Toole and wife Linda of Houston; daughters, Shelia Milner of Austin and Charlotte Dobson and husband Doug of Houston. Ava Toole had nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Ava was a founding member of the Hemphill Garden Club, a member of the Jasper Chapter of the DAR and the James Frederick Gomer Chapter of the DRT. Ava loved using her architectural skills to help build and remodel homes and other structures including the Methodist Church in Hemphill, of which she was a long time member. She valued her ever-increasing number of friends and enjoyed playing bridge and any activity involving laughter. Practically her last words were "Laughter...I like." She was the heart of her family and will be missed forever.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the First Unite Methodist Church in Hemphill.
In lieu of flowers the family members request that donations be made to the Houston Hospice, 8811 Gaylord, Suite 100, Houston, Texas 77024-2923 or the charity of one's choice.
