Witness my hand at Benjamin, Texas this 12th day of January A.D. 1897 signed...J.M. Martin
Lynell Cordell located the land record above, but was unable to locate a J.M. Martin in the cemetery records for Knox County, although she did find a reference to a Sarah Martin buried in the Johnson Cemetery in Munday, Knox County, but with no dates. She did not visit the cemetery. It is possible J.M. and Sarah divorced, as he was not listed in the home with Sarah and their children at the time of the 1900 census. Sarah was listed as widowed, but may have instead been divorced.
Lynell Cordell located the following death record for a J.M. Martin:
Texas Death Index, 1903-2000
Name: J. M. Martin
Death Date: 17 May 1943
Death County: Palo Pinto
Certificate: 24046
Informant on death certificate #24046 was Glenn Martin (son) of Mineral Wells, Palo Pinto Co. TX. He's buried in the Jacksboro Cem.
She also found a 1920 census in Jack Co. with J.M. Martin with wife Stella and two step-sons named Fowler.
Then again in Jack Co. in 1930 it was Moses J. Martin and Stella. He first married at age 26 which fits the 1892 marriage date of J. M. and Sarah.
I just put this part in his notes for now but I would bet on the death record, especially since his son Glenn, with two n's, was the informant. David Adams was supposed to be in Parker or Palo Pinto county also.

- Lynell Cordell has the original marriage license from Knox Co. TX which shows that County Judge J.J. Truscot married Miss Sallie Adams and J.M. Martin on Jan. 20, 1892.
Both can be found in separate households at the time of the 1900 census, J. M. in King County, Texas and Sally in Knox County, Texas. Each of them described themselves as "widowed" rather than divorced however.
