Notes |
- Caroline Mastny shows him as married to a Bertha, and being the father of Leonard. However, based on the 1900 census records for the household of John and Bertha Jirousek, it first appeared that the John Jirousek who married Bertha CIPRA was born in May 1862, which would rule out Jan Jirousek and Terezie Beznoska as his parents, based on their own years of birth. But based on his FindAGrave memorial page--and the photo of his tombstone on that page--he was actually born in 1869, about the same time Jan and Terezie Jirouseks' son was said to be born. The obituary for the John Jirousek, married to Bertha Cipra, does mention son Leonard, but no mention is made of John's parents or siblings.
There was a younger John Jirousek living in Cleveland in 1900, whose age would also make him as a candidate to be a son of Jan and Theresia. This other John Jirousek was living in Cuyahoga County, Cleveland, Ward 39, and his family was listed as follows:
1900 Census
Jirousek John Hd Aug 1871 Mr/5 yrs Aug 1871 Ohio Bohemia Bohemia Blanket Mill
Jirousek, Mary Wf Aug 1876 Mr/5 yrs 2/2 Ohio Bohemia Bohemia
Jirousek, Lillian Dtr July 1895 Ohio Ohio Ohio
Jirousek, John Son Sept 1895 Ohio Ohio Ohio
Id#: 0561446 Name: Jirousek, John Date: Nov 18 19? Source: Plain Dealer; Cleveland Necrology File, Reel #121. Notes: Beloved husband of the late Bertha; dear father of the late Leanard. Friends received at Corrigan's Funeral Home, Lorain Ave. at W. 148th St. Funeral mass Saturday, Nov. 18, St. Mel's Church at 9:30 a. m.
It should also be noted that yet a third John Jirousek, this one born Nov 1849 in Bohemia & married to an Anna, was living nearby the above family. As was the younger John Jirousek, he too was employed in the Blanket Mill. His wife Anna was listed as being the mother of 6 children, 5 still living, and only three of those still it home. So the John Jirousek born in August 1871 might have been a son of either John and Theresia Jirousek, or of John and Mary Jirousek, or of another Jirousek family entire. I was not able to find the family of John, Mary, Lillian and John in subsequent census enumerations.
As might be expected, their were three John Jirousek's listed in the 1900 Cleveland City Directory.
