  Notes	In the book THE PAYNES OF VIRGINIA, there is an interesting account on pages 240 through 242 about the siege of Bryan's Station, Kentucky. It is an abstraction of a letter written by Betsy in 1846, detailing her memories of her family being attacked by Indians. Kentucky Historical Society, "Genealogies of Kentucky Families: Vol. O-Y" (Baltimore Gen. Publ.-1981) notes she is the sister of Col. Richard M. Johnson of Georgetown, Kentucky. Betsy and John had fifteen children, four of them surviving: Asa Payne of Payne's Depot, Scott County, Kentucky; 2. John of Jack Payne, Warsaw, Ky.; 3. Jeff Payne, Howard Co, Missouri; and 4. A daughter, Mrs. Offut.
