Raymond was born on October 24, 1914 on a farm near Malcolm, NE to Henry and Minnie (Lindner) Schildt. He was baptized in 1914 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church southeast of Seward and confirmed on April 30, 1930 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pleasant Dale, NE. He was the oldest of five children.
Raymond served his country in the United States Army during WWII from 1942-1945. He was a driver for an officer that reported to General Patton. He was in 5 battles during this time. He was with the 818th Tank Destroyer Battalion. Shortly after D-Day in 1944, the 818th was attached to the 3rd Army under the command of General Patton in the European theater. Raymond participated in European campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, Central Europe, and Ardennes, which was better known as the Battle of the Bulge.
After returning from the war, he was married on December 22, 1945. They were blessed with four daughters. As a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, he served on the school board, was an elder and a trustee. He was a lifetime member of Seward V.F.W. Post #4755 and a member of Pleasant Dale American Legion Post #354. Raymond raised cattle and farmed in Seward County. He enjoyed playing cards, attending his grandchildren's events and raising livestock.
Raymond passed away on December 17, 2014 in Lincoln, NE at the age of 100 years, 1 month and 23 days. He is survived by his wife, Seward, NE, four daughter's and son in law's. One sister, Seward, NE; Seven Grandson's, Four Granddaughter's, Six Great grandson's, Five Great granddaughter's, Raymond was proceeded in death by his parent's Henry and Minnie Schildt; brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Ida Schildt; brother-in-law, Erwin Krieser; infant brother, Arthur Schildt; sister, Selma Murphy.
