5 Dec 1952 - James "Jim" P. Fussell of Homer was fatally burned Nov. 6 and died the following day at 12:20 p.m. Mr. Fussell was working on an oil rig when part of his equipment suddenly caught fire, causing him to suffer burns on 90 percent of his body. He was taken to Homer Memorial hospital.
He had been employed by magnolia Petroleum company since July 1, 1924. He had lived in Homer for approximately six months.
He is survived by his wife of Homer and three daughters, Jimmie Louise Fussell of Homer, Vera Fussel Townsend of Coushatta, and Alruy Fussell Howard of Natchez, Miss. Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. Hettie Fussell, of Many, four brothers, three sisters, four grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
Funeral services were held at First Baptist church in Coushatta, Rev. Jack Shaw officiating with Rev. Ben Joiner assisting. Interment was in Springville cemetery under direction of Rose-Neath funeral home of Coushatta.
