Arthur Leo Gerber was born on July 23, 1931 at Beaver Crossing, Nebraska to Jacob and Alice (Jaap) Gerber and passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013 at his home in Cordova, Nebraska.
As a young boy he attended and graduated from Beaver Crossing (NE.) High School in 1949. He enlisted in the United States Air Force as a young man and served more than 23 years through the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He was united in marriage on October 23, 1952 to Margaret Shutts and to this union sons and daughter were born, Robert, Debra, Ricky, John, James, Thomas and Ronald.
Together they made their home at various military bases including, Henderson, NV, Germany, California and Texas, until his retirement in 1971 at Altus AFB in Oklahoma when they moved to Cordova, Nebraska. Art worked for the post office delivering mail, trucked for Snick Ruhl, as a butcher for Orv's Grocery, and helped various farmers and worked at the Cordova, Nebraska elevator during the harvest season. Art was a member of the Cordova (NE.) American Legion Post #359, the Air Force Sergeants Association and the Disabled American Veterans #42, Crete.
Art was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling and taking trips to the casinos. Art's family was extremely important to him. He always stood behind his family whether they had a problem or a success and he was very honest and up front in working with all his family and friends.
Art is survived by: children, Robert Gerber, Seward, NE., James Gerber, Cordova, NE., Thomas Gerber, Omaha, NE., Ronald Gerber, Sutton, NE.; granddaughters, Ashley and Chelsea Gerber, Omaha, NE.; nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
Art was preceded in death by: parents; wife, Margaret Gerber in 1981; daughter, Debra sons, Ricky and John Gerber; sisters, June Lawson, Florence Nicholson and Evelyn White, brothers, Henry and Rudolph Gerber.
Interment was in the Zastrow Cemetery with military services by the US Air Force.
