      W. H. "Billy" Smith

      Funeral services for William H. "Billy" Smith, 70, of Milam were held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 1994 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home's chapel in Beaumont. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

      Smith died June 14 at Sabine County Hospital-Hemphill.

      Born Oct. 31, 1923, in Milam as a son of the late Obediah H and Elsie Hoffman Smith, he had lived in Beaumont several years before returning to Sabine County upon retirement as a pile foreman for Bethlehem Steel. Smith was a master sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps serving in World War II and in Korea.

      Survivors: wife, Annable Smith of Milam; a daughter, Sandra Butler of Hemphill, a son Rodney Smith of Beaumont, a sister, Marie Roma of Louisville, Kentucky; brothers Dr. John T Smith of Beaumont, James "Cotton" Smith of Milam; Robert Smith of Sulphur, Louisiana, and Truett Smith of Clear Lake; three grandchildren, Ronda Smith, Nicole Butler and Kenny Butler; and a great grandson, Joel Brett Smith.
