Dixie Lou Hargis, 93, of Hemphill, Texas passed away Monday, January 14, 2019 in Shady Shores of Hemphill.
Dixie was born August 24, 1925 in Hemphill, Texas to James Hargis Ener and Ella Smith Ener. She attended and graduated from Hemphill ISD. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and also a businesswoman and rancher.
Dixie was a lifelong resident of Sabine County and she was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Hemphill where she served her church in many ways, such as Sunday school teacher, youth leader, donating her time to visitation, to name a few. She was one of the oldest members of the church and was involved with the ground breaking of the new Family Life Center.
Dixie was also a 40-year member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas '96 James Frederick Gomer Chapter, a member of the Sabine County Historical Commission, and she was active with the Gaines-Oliphant House Restoration. She and her sister, Pete, ran Two Sisters Restaurant in Hemphill successfully for more than 30 years.
Dixie and her family owned and operated chicken houses for many years. She also owned Hargis Farms where she and her family raised and sold Santa Gertrudis cattle

Dixie was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Kyle "H.K." Hargis; her brother, Buddy Ener; and her sisters, Ila Martin and Pete Pratt.
She is survived by her sons, Dickie Hargis and wife, Rhonda, of Hemphill, Texas and Phillip Hargis and wife, Dana, of Batesville, Arkansas; grandchildren, Erica, Sarah, Ethan, Chad, and Tristan; and great grandchildren, Kyleigh, Kinslee, Kaisley, and Stephen.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas.
Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2019 at First Baptist Church, 301 Mann St., Hemphill, Texas, under the direction of Starr Funeral Home with Bro. Buddy Pratt officiating.
Burial will follow services in Hemphill Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Weldon McDaniel, Felix Holmes, Roger Gay, Bill Speights, Les Kercheval, Gary Parks, Daryl Melton, and Red Ryan.
Dixie's wish was for any donations or memorials to be made to: The Gaines-Oliphant House Restoration Fund, P. O. Box 655, Hemphill, Texas.
