- LaVerne Harris, 77, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016. LaVerne was born to Roy E. Droddy and Martha Marie Copeland Droddy on August 7, 1939 in Jefferson Texas. A lifetime resident of the Sabine and San Augustine County areas, LaVerne graduated from Bronson High School and later attended Stephen F. Austin University where she graduated fifth in her class; she had a Master's Degree in English, A Bachelor's Degree in Music, and was certified to teach German. She was employed as a teacher by West Sabine and San Augustine High Schools as well as Angelina College in Jasper.
She is survived by her two sons, Robert Noble Harris Jr. and wife Stacy of Geneva, and Roy Joe Harris and wife Mary of Geneva; one daughter, Angela Marnette Harris of Geneva; six grandchildren, Holli LeAnn Harris, Hannah Leigh Johnson, Robert Noble Harris III, Virginia LaVerne Harris, Sarah Elizabeth Harris, and Roy Joe Harris Jr.; and two great grandchildren, Makenna Len Harris-Wallace and Scarlett Jane Harris.
Visitation will be from 5:00PM until 8:00PM, Saturday, August 13, 2016, in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Funeral Home, Hemphill, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2:00PM, Sunday, August 14, 2016, in the McMahon Chapel. Burial will follow in the McMahon Chapel Cemetery.
Ladies are encouraged to wear hats to the service in honor of LaVerne.
