- Dorothy Gertrude Birdwell, 94, of Gravel Hill Community, Texas, passed away on March 14, 2024. She was born on June 25, 1929, in Yellowpine, Texas, to Hollis E. Stewart and Lillie Mae McDonald Stewart. She was a beloved member of her community.
Dorothy was a graduate of Hemphill High School Class of 1946. She began her career at Temple Lumber Company the day after graduating high school in 1946. Dorothy dedicated 52 years to the company, serving as an office secretary, dispatcher, and records clerk for the Forest Division until her retirement in 1998. Her co-workers and contractors held a very special place in her heart during her time at Temple as well as her Rosevine neighbors, family and many friends who helped her so much in many ways after she moved to Rosevine in 2000.
Dorothy is survived by her sister, Evelyn McNaughten of Fairmount. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hollis and Mae Stewart.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas.
Funeral services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024, in Starr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. T. A. Lane and Bro. Wes Wright officiating.
Burial will follow at Yellowpine Cemetery with Royce Warr, Doyle Birdwell, Derek Bobbitt, Marc Griffin, D. B. Chance, Kenneth Miller, Chris Rhame, and Kirk Butler serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers include, Dan Fussell, James T. Davis, Karey Lee, Sheriff Mitchell Newman and R.L. McDaniel.
.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy's memory to Yellowpine Cemetery, Yellowpine Missionary Baptist Church, or a charity of your choice.
