Alton McClelland, 83 of Brookeland, Texas died on June 17, 2011 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be held at 3pm Monday, June 20, 2011, at the Stringer & Griffin Chapel in Jasper with burial to follow at the Brookeland Cemetery.
Alton was a long time resident of Brookeland and was employed with Temple-Inland for over 44 years. He loved fishing, hunting, red roses, Brookeland basketball and spending time with his family. He was a song leader at the Church of Christ for over 58 years and was nicknamed "Red".
Alton is survived by his loving wife for over 65 years, Geneva McClelland of Brookeland, daughter Gloria Simpson & husband Bobby of Brookeland, son Ronnie McClelland & wife Pauline of Bronson, five grand-children, Bobbie Freeman & husband Rick of Houston, Lt. Col. Kevin Simpson & wife Karina of Springfield, Virginia, Kimberly Kant & husband Umesh of Houston, Julia McClelland of Pineland, Texas, William Joseph (Joey) McClelland of Nacogdoches, Texas, ten great-grandchildren, Erica Simpson, Lauren Freeman, Ashley Merritt, PFC Timothy Britt Wissing, Mathew Freeman, Allison Conner, Kyle Simpson, Andrew Simpson, Melanie Simpson, and Devan Kant; and three great great-grandchildren, Tayton Merritt, Daniella Alvarez, and Mikayla Merritt.
He is also survived by a host of beloved friends and relatives.
Alton is predeceased by his parents, William Joseph and Allean McClelland, five brothers, three sisters and grandson, Kyle Mark Simpson.
