- Mrs. Helen Jean Lake, age 93, lifelong resident and business owner of San Augustine, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, in San Augustine.
Helen was born to Mabel (Miller) Mathews and Lon Mathews on July 22, 1922 in San Augustine, Texas. Along with her husband, the late William "Bill" Leland Lake, they owned and operated The White Auto Store in San Augustine for many years. She was a member of the First Memorial Presbyterian Church in San Augustine.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m., October 9, 2015, in the Memorial Presbyterian Church in San Augustine. The family chose cremation.
Those who are left to cherish her memory include, Daughter, Pamela Janette Lake Baggett and her husband, Joe of Conroe; Son, Murray Keith Lake; Daughter-in-law, Linda Lake Vanderwilt of Houston; her beloved grandchildren, Nicole Plaster of Conroe; Kevin Lake of Houston; Lindsay Lake Gray and her husband, Steven of East Lansing, Michigan and William Cody Baggett of Conroe and Michelle Giaramita of New York; great-granddaughter, Emily Nicole Plaster of Conroe and Jonah Gray of East Lansing, Michigan; Sister, Carolyn Epps and husband, Ken, "Uncle Ken" of Houston; Her nieces, Debbie Epps Vaughn and husband, Tom; Janet Mathews; Tory Mathews Henley and husband, John; Monette Mathews Graffe and husband, Reed; Mary Jean Mathews Weaver and her husband, Mark; Betty Kim Eppps Bradshaw and Kent and Renee Mathews Koethon and her husband, Ted; Nephews, Lew Mathews and wife, Les; Tom Mathews; Richard Epps; Robert Epps and his wife, Terry and Murray Mathews, along with numerous great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lon and Mabel (Miller) Mathews; Her Beloved Husband, William "Bill" Leland Lake, and Her Brothers, Miller Mathews; Clifton Mathews and Victor Mathews, and a nephew, Lonnie Mathews.
