  Notes	J. D. Cooper, Brookeland, was on a list of 11 members of the Sabine County Medical Society, June 1910, in the TEXA STATE JOURNAL OF MEDICINE, published in 1911. From FindAGrave: He was a physician and surgeon who made his home in Brookland, Texas, where he practiced medicine until his death. He had grown up on a farm, but became interested in medicine through Dr. Daniel Matthew Cooper, his father's brother. He studied medicine at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and began his practice in 1895. He later attended Texas Christian University at Fort Worth, Texas and received a degree there in 1908. He was the typical "country doctor" going where ever he was needed, and began his practice on foot if a horse was not available or could not get to the patient quick enough. His services grew indispensable to the many families whom he served for almost a half century.
