- Listed as Alexander on the 1850 census; as A. H. in 1860 and 1870, and as Andrew in 1880 and 1900. Steve McCalip emailed, in August 2015, that his name "...should be "Andrew Henderson McGown" This is what is on the Bible page of his birth, his father's bible (George W. McGown). I have many other documents supporting this...."
"Received a land grant from the Republic of Texas (bro. of John Franklin McGown). Alex H. McGown was sherriff of Sabine County for many years. All these McGowns are buried in the Browning Cemetery on the Camino Real near Milam." (White and Toole, p 52).
