- He was born Clarence Mixon Cannon, but later changed his name to Dean Mixon Vance. His brother Billy Cannon also changed his last name to Vance, both boys wanting to make their way under their own reputation, not that of their grandfather. Bonnie Hyden indicated their older sister, Erlyne, helped them chose their new names. When he moved back to Sabine County, he started using the name Billy Cannon once again. He is listed on the SSDI as William N. CANNON.
He was a welder for many years and a Hemphill City Policeman in his later years.
