Kathryn "Kathy" Sweeny Smith, 62, died in St. Luke's Hospital, Houston, TX. Kathy was born in West Columbia, TX, to Edward Porter and Carrie Davis Sweeny and has lived in Pineland, TX, most of her life.
She was a member of the Strickland Crossing Church of God and a loving Nana. She loved working with the Girl Scouts and Dixie Youth Baseball.
Kathy is survived by her husband Gary Mike Smith of Diboll, her son Dallas Welch and his wife Kay of Pineland, her daughters Bridget Dew and her husband Jason and Carrie Harley and her husband Josh both of Pineland, her step-son Billy Jack Smith and his wife Ashley of Diboll and her step-daughter Chasity Archer and her husband Ricky of Diboll. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Bette Sweeny of Alvin, TX, a niece Jodi Sweeny of Alvin and nephew Coby Sweeny and his wife Cindy of Danberry, TX. Kathy's grandchildren were the joy of her life, Dakota, Madison, Collin, Cody, Daren, Caden and Cadee.
Visitation will be from 6:00PM until 9:00PM, Friday, May 25, 2011, in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, TX. Funeral services will be at 2:00PM, Saturday, May 26, 2010, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Pineland Cemetery, Pineland, Texas.
Pallbearers for Kathy will be: Dakota Dew, Collin Dew, Daren Dew, Cody Welch, Coby Sweeny, Tyler Scott Sweeny, Ronny Comeaux, and Scott Hardy. Honorary pallbearers will be: Tom Brown, Bill Sanders, Bobby Rice and John Burt.
