Notes |
- After their marriage they were said to have traveled by convered wagon to Texas to live near relatives there for about a year. Luther had great looking crops coming in just fine when a windstorm developed. After the storm was over everything in the field was browned like Autumn and all was lost. They decided right then that farming was much better back home in Monroe county, so they boarded a train and made the long trip home, never to leave again. It was while in Texas that Luther learned about cotton farming, knowledget that he brought back with him to Tennessee. He became the first cotton farmer in Monroe County, but neighbors soon followed suit.
