  Notes	The Sabine County Reporter June 12, 1996, Page 10 C. A. "Buddy" Nethery C. A. "Buddy" Nethery, 85, of Milam died Friday, June 7, 1996, at Sabine County Hospital in Hemphill. Born Dec. 14, 1910, as a son of the late Charles A. and Amanda (Speights) Nethery, he had been a lifelong resident of Milam. Nethery was a merchant, having operated Nethery & Son General Merchandise in Milam for 54 years. He was also a member of the Bethany Baptist Church. Survivors: wife, Bernice SELF Nethery of Milam; daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Tom PAYNE of Caldwell and Janet and Him OLIVE of Pineland; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Susan Nethery of Milam and Ken and Laura Nethery of Bellingham, Massachusetts; a sister, Margurite EDDINGS of Hemphill; brothers, Wendell Nethery of Milam and Loy Nethery of Beaumont; 14 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill with Bro. Louie Self, Bro. Robert Shaddock, and Bro. W. Clarence Howell officiating.   	The June 13, 2006 issue of the Sabine County Reporter featured the "All Things Historical" column by Bob Bowman titled "Nethery's Store." The oldest continually operated business in Sabine County, Nethery's was begun by C. A. Nethery, who came to Milam from Patroon as a young man. He and is wife, Amanda built a home on Main street and later opened a general store and saloon. The first store was burned during a snowstorm in 1913, but a new store was quickly built. The "new" store is still standing. After his father's death in 1942, C.A. "Buddy" Nethery, Jr. operated the store until his death. His nephew's, Gene and Doule Nethery kept the store open until 2000, selling hardware and providing a place for local dominoe players to meet. It is currently operated by Ellen Melton, Laura Tichnell, and Susan Nethery as an antique store.
