- He graduated from Castleton Normal School in 1885 and studied music at the New England Conservatory of Music at Boston, Massachusetts. He was musical director for a number of theatrical companies, and in 1904 became pianist in the Strong theatre orchestra in Burlington, Vermont. He was a member of Sherman's Military Band. He worked as a jeweler and engraver.
