  Notes	He graduated from Vermont Academy of Medicine at Castleton in 1840. (The name of this institution was changed in 1841 to the Castleton Medical College). He settled in West Haven, Vermont in 1840 to begin his practice. In 1844 he removed to Fair Haven, Vermont, and in 1865 he removed to Castleton, Vermont. The Rutland County Historical Society was organized 11 June 1880, and James Sanford of Castleton was elected Vice President.
