- Henson and Parmelee write that prior to his marriage to Anna Holman, he "joined a company of of mounted volunteers...(which became) Company A of the Second Regiment of Texas Mounted Volunteers commanded by Col. George T. Wood and were sworn into the United States Army for three month's service on June 26, 1846." (Henson and Parmelee, p. 136). He was an attorney, and was elected as a representative to attend a convention to draft the new state constitution after the Civil War. (ibid, p. 250).
