  Notes	While living in warehose hollow near Wheeler Dam, Earl contracted malaria fever which forced him back to Limestone to recover. He resided with friends and relatives helping with their crops. In 1933 Earl entered the Civilian Conservation Corps. His grandparents, Samuel and Rebecca Kendall SMITH, needed financial help. The CCC would give Earl food and lodging and $8 a month and send grandparents $22 a month. (The Heritage of Lauderdale County, Alabama, p. 347).
