"I am still trying to verify the killer of Heffington as being Netties brother....but it looks like: Marchella McDavid married Frank Fleming. Frank Fleming, Baptist Minister, was made to participate in the hanging of 1883. Marchella McDavid had a brother names William Patrick McDavid. William Patrick McDavid married Nettie Mundine, and she was a sister of William Mundine. Was this the same William Sam Mundine who killed Fitzpatrick? (this part needs to be verified). William Mundine is listed as being a 19 year old stock herder, along with baby sister Nettie (age 2) on the 1870 Burleson County, TX census. A William Samuel Mundine killed sheriff Bose Herrington, but Jeff Fitzpatrick has gone done in history as being Herrington's killer.
Melba also found the following article:
Rockdale Messenger, Thur., 27 April 1899
"Killing at Lexington" - William Mundine Shot and Killed by Constable Cige Heffington" - Last Saturday about 3 o'clock, at Lexington, Cige Heffington shot William Mundine, and Monday morning Mundine died from his wounds. Heffington shot at Mundine six times, hitting him twice, once in the right side near the nipple, which shot caused his death."
Does this article relate to Nettie's older brother?
