- Bettye Frances Wagstaff, 83, of Bronson, Texas passed away peacefully Sunday morning in the Lufkin Memorial Hospital, Lufkin, TX. Bettye was born in Sabinetown, Texas, to Mack Register and Annie Pearl Barlow Bragg.
She graduated from Bronson High School in 1945 at age 16 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. She met Robert Harland Wagstaff in Nacogdoches and they were married on August 23, 1946. She, and her husband of 63 years, were employeed by West Sabine ISD for most of their careers and established the Jon Wagstaff Memorial Scholarship for West Sabine graduates.
Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Jon Robert Wagstaff, and her sisters Pat Wright and Jackie Drawhorn. She is survived by her daughter Lou Ann Wagstaff of Whitehouse, Texas; granddaughter Cory and husband Rob Blackmon of Brownsboro, Texas; great grandchildren Caylor, Brock and Tyler Blackmon; a brother-in-law W.E. Wright of Port Neches, Texas; a sister-in-law, Onita Hanna of Jacksonville, Texas; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bettye loved spending time with her family, especially the great grandchildren. She enjoyed genealogy, flower gardening, being with friends, hearing from former students, reading a good book and taking an occasional road trip. She was "young at heart" and her wit and wisdom will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
Visitation will br from 6:00PM until 8:00PM, Tuesday, August 28, 2012, in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, TX. Funeral services will be at 10:00AM, Wednesday, August 29, 2012, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas
Memorial contributions made to the Jon Wagstaff Memorial Scholarship fund at First Bank and Trust of East Texas, Pineland, Texas 75968, would be greatly appreciated by the family.
