Notes |
- Alice's nieces, Mable and Belle STRONG, were living with Royal and Alice at the time of the 1910 census. Glenn was shown as widowed, but neither of his young daughters were listed in the home. Perhaps they were living with their maternal grandparents?
When the 1920 Mahoning, Ohio census was taken, Royal was widowed, and living only with his daughter, Alberta CUTTING, age 13 and 11/12, and a housekeeper from Pennsylvania. Alberta was the adopted daughter of Royal and Alice, the daughter of Alice's brother, Frederick A. Strong, and named after her mother, Alberta Osborne Strong.
The following obituary is from the Historical Collections of Bristol Township, Bristolville, Ohio Thomas J. Kachur 1989, p. 127, xerox copies provided by the Trumbull County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society:
CUTTING, Royal S., d. at the home of his son, Glenn, in McDonald, Jan. 31, 1938 at 78 years. He was b. in Bristol, son of William C. and Lucy (Ober) CUTTING*, July 17, 1859. Employed at the Carnegie Steel Co., he was a retired carpenter. He was the father of Alberta CUTTING of Youngstown, and Mrs. Vern SHIPP, Bristol. Royal was the brother of Mrs. John FINK of Bristol. Royal m. Alice M. STRONG Aug. 20, 1884.
Note: Royal's wife, Alice, was buried at the Evergreen Cemetery in Bristol Township. Listed next to her in the cemetery index, on the same stone, were Abram C. CUTTING and Lucia A. CUTTING 12/9/1821 6/6/1889 The estate of Lucia Cutting was distributed to Bertha FINK, Amy COX, Lyndie RAYMOND, Jane L. McMAHAN, Lucy RAYMOND, and Royal S. CUTTING. | Cutting, Royal (Assumed to be an early photo), prob. ca. 1880-1890 This tintype was sent to Cyndi Kapiton by a cousin in Illinois as part of a group of tintypes. He told her that two of the pictures were of her grandfather, Glenn Cutting, Sr. and that there was also a picture of Royal and a picture of Alice. Based on the facial features of this individual, including the color of his eyes, it appears that the subject of this photo is actually Royal Cutting, and not Royal's son Glenn Cutting. This would mean there were actually two tintypes of Royal, and only one of Glenn Cutting, Sr. POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

| Cutting, Royal bef 1900 Royal "Rolla" Cutting was the husband of Alice Mary Strong. He worked as a carpenter at the Carnegie Steel Company in Ohio. This picture appears to have been taken around the turn of the century. It appears that his brother-in-law, Ralph Strong, admired him enough to name one of his sons Rolla. |

| Cutting, Abraham (POSSIBLY)
The father of Royal S. Cutting?
This was among a group of Cutting tintypes given to Cindy Davis Kapiton. The tintypes were said to be photos of Royal Cutting and his son, Glenn Cutting, Sr. It is possible that this an early photo of Royal Cutting. However the color of the subject's eyes appear much lighter than Royal's eyes do in other photos. It was therefore assumed this might be a photo of Glenn Cutting, Sr. However, Janice Cutting Stevens, Glenn Cutting, Sr.'s granddaughter, says this is not a photo of her grandfather. She writes that although it might be of Royal, she suspects this is actually a photo of Royal's father, Abraham Cutting. The photo itself also appears to be older than the others in the group, which would support this conclusion. Cindy Kapiton suggested that this might instead be a photo of Royal's older brother, also named Abraham. The exact identity, however, is still unknown.
POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! |
