Notes |
- Josie came from Czechoslovakia in 1920, with sister Anna. When they arrived in Ellis Island at the ages of 18 and 19, their names were pinned to their clothing as they spoke no English. They were sent to live with their Aunt Josie Rozanek of Milligan. Eventually arriving at the Fairmont train depot, they were again in the arms of loved ones, even though still strangers to them, but at least they could speak Czech with them. Josie worked at Lincoln as a domestic before her marriage. Sister Anna, and her husband Frank KARA came from Illinois to live with the Kotas family for a brief time during the depression (Milligan, p 352).
