Notes |
- FindAGrave shows that she married J. C. Berryman and died in 1963 (at the improbable age of 120). They are buried at Spring Hill Cemetery. Other sources indicate she died relativerly soon after her marriage. Perhaps she died in 1863 vs. 1963. Kay Parker McCary, in her annotated transcription of the Spring Hill cemetery, shows her as Maragaret Ann vs. Margaret Jane. No dates were inscribed on her tombstone, and McCary estimates them as ca. 1841 - bef. 1880. She also indicates that Margaret was the first wife of Frederick Berryman Sr, not J. C. Berryman.
Jim Cooper, writes, on his "Trails to Texas Blog," http://www.trailstotexas.com/
"Martha Cooper married Frederick Berryman, who has immigrated to the United States from Prussia. Martha died giving birth to their first child, James Charles ["Charley"] Berryman in 1862. Frederick was despondent over the loss. [Martha's father] Jonathan rode on horseback over 20 miles from Hemphill to Brookeland, in Sabine County, and took the infant home to raise to allow Frederick to get his life together. Frederick joined the Confederate Army as a musician, remarried after the war, and raised 11 more children. Charley went on to have 13 children?..[his] youngest child, Bertha Berryman McDaniel?lived to be 101."
