Funeral Services Tuesday for Bennie Morgan

Bennie Polk Morgan 90, of Jasper, formerly of San Augustine, died Sunday, March 12, 1995 at Forum Health Care Center in Dallas.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Runnels Cemetery in Broaddus.

Mrs. Morgan was born in San Augustine County, attended County Schools, and Mary Hardin-Baylor University in Belton. She taught in the San Augustine Schools for a number of years and was active in civic and church activities. She was married to Frank Youngblood, a San Augustine car dealer and later to Bronson Morgan of Jasper. Mr. Morgan was the original partner in the Morgan & Lindsey Variety Store Chain. She was co-founder of the Hampton-Morgan Chair of Nursing at Mary Hardin-Baylor at Belton.

Mrs. Morgan was head of the Department of Public Welfare offices in San Augustine County for a number of years. While living in San Augustine, her home was the Ezekiel Cullen House at Congress and Market which she sold in the 1950's to Hugh Roy Cullen, who restored it to the 1839 setting and presented it to the Ezekial Cullen Chapter of the Daughters of The Republic of Texas. She visited here for historical activities often thoughout the years.

She was descended from a pioneer San Augustine County family and used her means to presume the family lands near Broaddus, including the Runnels Cemetery where she was buried.

Survivors include a son, Frank Polk Youngblood of Austin; daughters, Jane Teel Youngblood of Plano; seven grandchildren; and two great-granchildren.

A similar obituary was published in the March 22, 1995 issue of the Sabine County Reporter. This second obituary added that she was "born March 3, 1905, as a daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary (Runnels) Polk."
