ELSIE HROMADKA
Elsie Mae Hromadka, of Friend, died suddenly Sunday, February 22, 2004, at her home in Friend at the age of 78 years, six months and nine days. She was born August 13, 1925, on a farm south of Exeter to Josephine (Novak) and Frank Stetina, the third of four children. Elsie attended a country school and graduated from Exeter High School with the Class of 1942. She was united in marriage on December 27, 1945, to Frank Hromadka, Jr. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Milligan and to this union three daughters, Pamela, Patricia, and Connie were born. Elsie was very proud of the educational accomplishments of her daughters and granddaughter.
Elsie and Frank made their home south of Friend where she was a busy mother and farm wife. They moved into Friend in 1995. She loved being outside whether in the yard, garden, or tending her animals. Throughout life her Czech heritage played an important role that was passed down to her family. She displayed this with her fluency of the language and faithfully listening weekly to Czech music. She was a member St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar Society of Friend. She also was a member of the Saline Center ZCBJ Lodge #389.
Elsie is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Hromadka, York, Patricia and Dennis Carpenter, York, Connie and Mark Strouf, Wilber, granddaughter, Lindsay and her husband Jeremy Kohout, Milford, brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Florine Stetina, Lincoln, sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Ed Hyland, Prairie Village, KS, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank in 2000, and a brother Edwin Stetina.
A Celebration Of Life Service will be held at 10:30a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Friend, with Fr. David Bourek officiating. Interment is in Bohemian National Cemetery, Milligan, Nebraska. ZCBJ services by Saline Center ZCBJ Lodge #389 will be given at the graveside by Pauline Homolka. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 24, 2004, with the family greeting friends from 5-7 pm at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend. Visitation is Tuesday 2-7 and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Memorials are directed in care of the family. Pallbearers are Justin Lauver, Les Wilson, Steve Wilson, Dick Weber, Gary Blatter, and Roy Bulwan. Honorary Pallbearers are Rick Stetina, Boyd Miller, Roland Hummel, Fred Novak, Jim Novak, Ed Adkins, and Lumir Zumpfe. Donna Harding, organist, accompanied the congregation as they sang "Here I Am Lord" and "Amazing Grace". Randy Kaliff, soloist, sang "Ave Maria" and "Going Home". Fred Novak served as Lector. Judy Sempeck was the Cantor and Irva Jean Ott gave a Tribute. Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend, was in charge of arrangements.
