    Notes 
    • Bradford Carter, his son Ben, and grandson, John Bradford owned and operated Carter's Ferry for many years. (White and Toole, p 41).

      Leatha Betts, a descendant of his eldest daugther, Sarah Elizabeth, show that Bradford was married five times in total, and also indicates that he had three children with Frances Procell, though they were never married. Frances Procell was listed as a housekeeper, age 22, in his home at the time of the 1870 census. Frances Precell, shown as widowed, lived in the adjacent residence at the time of the 1880 census with her three children, Luisia, 14, William, 7, and Lizzie, 5.
