- Pearl McGown Lowe, 93, of Hemphill died at 2:44 pm Thursday, Aug 31, 2000, at Hemphill Care & Rehabilitation Center in Hemphill. Mrs. Lowe, born 6 Feb 1907, in Sabine County as a daughter of the late William Duard and Mary Lola (White) McGown, was a retired teacher from Houston Independent School District. She had returned to Sabine County 24 years ago and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hemphill. Survivors: a son, Robert McGown Lowe of Houston; a daughter, Mary Jo Lowe of Hemphill; and a sister, Gladys Nicosia of Hemphill. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept 2, at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc in Hemphill with Bro. Fred Raney, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed at the Hemphill City Cemetery in Hemphill.
